Duties

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for delivering designated nursing activities for patients, families and / or significant others experiencing acute and / or chronic medical problems, diagnostic, and / or surgical interventions, and / or psychiatric problems. LPN uses practical nursing knowledge and skills to provide care according to the patient's condition and treatment plan; to provide care in a manner that is therapeutic, supportive, and individualized; and to provide patient / family / care giver education sufficient to allow the patient / family / care giver to not only be compliant with the plan of care but to also promote health and wellness. LPN is to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information. Completed work [should need] only a general review by a registered nurse (RN) or physician (MD / DO) for appropriateness and conformity with established policies / procedures.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification / licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements :

Preferred Experience :

a. Minimum 3 years of clinical LPN experience that has included behavioral health and or addiction treatment nursing.

b. Nursing practice characterized by proficiency in

1) Medical / surgical nursing skills and interventions

2) Ability to quickly identify medical urgencies and emergencies

3) Clinical problem-solving

4) Patient / family education appropriate for age and learning barriers.

c. IV certification.

d. Work history characterized by dependability, accountability, self-directedness and initiative.

e. Current BLS.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS 6. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS 3 to GS 6.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave : Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
