About the RoleOur client, a premier motorsports organization in Santa Clarita, is seeking a Performance Applications / Calibration Intern to support advanced powertrain development programs. This internship offers hands‑on experience in embedded control strategy development, engine and hybrid system modeling, and calibration tool creation—ideal for students passionate about high‑performance engineering and motorsport technology.
Position OverviewThis internship focuses on the development and validation of embedded powertrain control strategies for internal combustion engines and hybrid powertrain systems. The intern will work closely with controls and calibration engineers on model‑based development, physical system modeling, and calibration tool creation using industry‑standard tools such as MATLAB® / Simulink® and , control theory, and engine physics—especially within a motorsports or high‑performance engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities-Support development of embedded engine and hybrid control strategies-Contribute to physics‑based powertrain modeling in Simulink-Develop calibration and data analysis tools using MATLAB or Python-Assist with validation of simulation models and calibration workflows-Collaborate with controls and calibration engineers on system development tasks-Apply first‑principles reasoning to modeling, analysis, and problem‑solving
Technical Skills-Strong working knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink-Experience with Python or MATLAB for data analysis, scripting, or tool development-Familiarity with version control systems (, Git) is a plus
Engineering Fundamentals-Solid understanding of internal combustion engine fundamentals, including : -Thermodynamics-Combustion behavior-Air‑path dynamics-Torque generation-Ability to apply physical equations and first‑principles reasoning to modeling and analysis tasks
Academic BackgroundCurrently pursuing (or recently completed) a degree in : -Mechanical Engineering-Automotive Engineering-Aerospace Engineering-Controls Engineering-Or a closely related field
Junior or Senior standing preferred.
