Job description

Senior Developer

Geronimo Power's Development team originates, advances, and executes utility-scale energy and digital infrastructure projects across key U.S. markets. The Senior Developer is a senior individual contributor who independently advances a portfolio of early- to mid-stage projects and supports select late-stage projects across solar, wind, battery energy storage, powered data parks, natural gas, and other emerging technologies. The role evaluates market and site opportunities, leads greenfield development, coordinates cross-functional inputs, manages development budgets and schedules, and identifies and mitigates project risk.

This position does not have direct people-management responsibility. The Senior Developer provides informal leadership to cross-functional project teams and works with internal subject matter experts, external consultants, landowners, utilities, regulators, and community stakeholders. Success requires sound judgment, clear escalation of risk, and the ability to move projects forward with limited oversight while maintaining alignment with company priorities, budgets, schedules, stage-gate requirements, and development milestones.

Responsibilities include managing the budgets, schedules, risks, documentation, stage-gate requirements, and advancement of approximately 4-6 early- to mid-stage projects across multiple technologies, while supporting approximately 1-2 late-stage projects as needed. Annual development budgets are generally expected to range from approximately $2 million to $7 million, depending on project type and stage.

Other responsibilities include supporting market evaluation, project origination, greenfield development, mergers and acquisitions diligence, and partnership opportunities; evaluating project viability based on land, interconnection, permitting, stakeholder, market, economic, constructability, and strategic considerations; leading negotiations and execution of purchase options, lease options, easements, extensions, and related real estate agreements; building the greenfield development pipeline by identifying new market opportunities, evaluating development constraints and commercial drivers, and creating practical pathways to project viability; representing Geronimo Power with landowners, local officials, utilities, regulators, transmission providers, and community stakeholders; coordinating with Transmission, Engineering, Construction, Permitting, Real Estate, Legal, Finance, Commercial, Strategy, Community Engagement, and Procurement teams; identifying, assessing, managing, and escalating project risks; partnering with internal technical teams on interconnection and transmission activities; partnering with Engineering and Construction on site layouts, design assumptions, constructability, equipment needs, cost-effective development strategies, and accurate identification of project constraints; working with the Permitting team to coordinate federal, state, and local permitting and approval processes for generation and load projects; preparing project updates, budgets, forecasts, schedules, investment materials, and leadership reporting that clearly communicate status, decisions, risks, and required actions; managing external consultants and contractors to ensure timely, accurate, and fit-for-purpose deliverables; leading or supporting negotiation and execution of development agreements, service agreements, real estate documents, local agreements, and other project contracts; traveling approximately 40% of the time; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required experience includes a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, environmental policy or science or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience; at least 4 years of experience in renewable energy project development or a related field such as energy, real estate, infrastructure, commercial development, land development, or project management; strong understanding of utility-scale project development processes and working knowledge of energy markets, project economics, interconnection, permitting, land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and project execution; experience managing landowner relationships, community engagement, and external stakeholder communications; demonstrated ability to independently manage development workstreams, deadlines, budgets, cross-functional dependencies, and competing priorities; ability to identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, make recommendations, and escalate matters using sound judgment; experience coordinating with finance, commercial, real estate, legal, permitting, engineering, construction, transmission, and other cross-functional partners; strong written, verbal, analytical, negotiation, and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare clear project updates and executive materials; entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated ability to identify greenfield opportunities, navigate ambiguity, and advance new concepts from idea to an actionable development path; strong organization, follow-through, accountability, and ability to work independently while remaining aligned with team and company priorities; and a valid driver's license.

Preferred experience includes development experience with utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, powered data parks or data centers, or natural gas projects; familiarity with regional transmission organizations or independent system operators, especially MISO; experience with project origination, market screening, land acquisition, interconnection applications, or M&A diligence; exposure to project finance, project sale processes, commercial structuring, or investment approvals; experience presenting to senior leaders, public officials, community groups, landowners, or other external stakeholders; proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and experience with Procore or comparable project-management systems.

Success in this role looks like assigned projects advancing through defined development milestones with current schedules, disciplined budgets, complete documentation, and clear ownership of next steps; material development risks and constraints being identified early, supported by practical mitigation plans, and escalated with clear recommendations when decisions are needed; new greenfield opportunities being screened thoughtfully and converted into actionable development pathways aligned with company strategy and return expectations; cross-functional partners and external stakeholders receiving timely, accurate information and understanding required decisions, deliverables, and accountabilities; and land, interconnection, permitting, and community workstreams remaining coordinated so that projects are positioned for successful transition to later-stage development and execution.

What you'll get includes competitive compensation and performance-based incentives; 401(k) retirement plan; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off and holidays; tuition assistance and ongoing professional development; employee assistance program (EAP) and wellness resources; pet insurance and employee discount programs; and a pay range for the posted level of $142,000 $178,000 plus target annual bonus opportunity of 15%. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and demonstrated market-relevant expertise.
