AvMed, a division of Sentara Health Plans in the Florida market, is hiring a Senior Accountant in Miami or Gainesville, Florida.

This is a hybrid position, 2 days in office and 3 days remote.

Scope of the Position : This position is responsible for advanced accounting activities and financial reporting under both generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP), as required by management, regulators and others including the Florida OIR, NAIC and CMS.

This includes research, interpretation, and implementation of technical accounting guidelines for AvMed GAAP and SAP.

Essential Job Functions :

Prepares and coordinates all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement reports filed with the Florida OIR, NAIC, CMS, as well as other state and national regulators and rating agencies, on a timely and accurate basis.

This entails efficiently obtaining the technical information from various departments which is required to prepare assigned reports.

• Prepares statutory financial statements, including appropriate notes and supplemental disclosures, for external audit purposes.
• Ensures AvMed remains current with respect to all new technical accounting and regulatory guidance. The position will research, interpret, and implement accounting and reporting changes as necessary, documenting conclusions in technical memorandums and obtaining concurrence from independent auditors.
• Acts as a subject matter expert for budgets, forecasts and management inquiries relating to Capital and Surplus, Risk Based Capital, etc.
• Independently performs other specialized accounting duties including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, account analyses, accruals, and payment requests.

Payment requests include, but are not limited to, periodic filing fees, outsourcing fees, audit fees, property taxes, business licenses, claims surcharge assessments, and premium assessments.

Evaluates internal accounting controls and processes to ensure compliance with policies and laws and to safeguard assets;

Develops strategies and applies solutions for effectively implementing changes in regulatory requirements contributing to successful reporting compliance.

Assists with departmental responsibilities such as annual budget preparation, software maintenance and invoice processing.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements :

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or Tax
• 3 plus year of experience in Tax, accounting, auditing or financial reporting.

Preferred Requirements :

• Master's degree
• Experience in managed care
• CPA eligible

Job Summary

Prepare, analyze, research, and adjust financial statements for management presentation. Creates relevant work papers, schedules, and reconciliations.

Review and comprehend financial indicators and results of operations, significant operational statistics, variances from budget and historical results.

Research technical accounting and financial reporting issues, and assist with ad hoc financial analysis and projects. This position assists in preparation and coordination of year-end audits.

Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required. Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration will be considered in lieu of required experience.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
