DESCRIPTION

The Computer Engineer will be responsible for providing day-to-day administration on a UNIX / LINUX network. Duties include operating system installation and troubleshooting, disk management, backup and recovery, network resource management, user support, and application installation and troubleshooting.

The Engineer will configure and troubleshoot client and server systems running Solaris and IRIX, support network services (NIS(+), NFS, DNS), configure security requirements for resource sharing and access restrictions, perform disk management using UFS, XFS, VxFS file systems on diverse vendor storage hardware, and install / configure COTS products such as ESRI, ERDAS, Sybase, Oracle, STK, COREL, and Autometric products.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Possess a minimum of sixteen (16) years’ UNIX / LINUX experience of which at least five (5) years working on Solaris platforms specifically
  • Possess a minimum of ten (10) years' experience designing, installing testing, implementing and maintaining complex heterogeneous high performance computing systems and applications
  • Able to design and operate storage and network infrastructures as well as heterogeneous Windows / UNIX / LINUX operating platforms
  • Able to design, install, and maintain large scale Linux compute clusters and commercial supercomputing systems
  • Experience working with clustered computing systems including clustered and parallel file systems such as GPFS and Lustre
  • Experience deploying and maintaining high performance computing communications fabrics including Infiniband
  • Experience implementing advanced communications protocols and extensions including RDMA, TOE and OS Bypass
  • Experience working with computational accelerators including GPUs, FPGAs
  • Experience with scripting languages including JavaScript, Perl, Python, and PHP
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess troubleshooting skills
  • Experience integrating heterogeneous UNIX / LINUX platforms insuring network services and security functions perform uniformly from the user's perspective
  • Experience leading integration efforts
  • Knowledge of industry alternatives for storage and network solutions not limited to SCSI, Fiber Channel, Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, and ATM protocol / solutions
  • Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related field
