Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Service large equipment such as forage harvesting equipment, tractors of various sizes, pickups, trucks, caterpillars, and other farming equipment
- Analyze equipment failures, determine cause(s), and make necessary adjustments or repairs
- Operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools in the Shop associated with repairing, maintaining, and testing equipment as needed
- Confer with Tractor Shop Manager to coordinate priority projects; equipment repair, and extent of repairs to be performed.
Complete parts request forms. Order parts through various sources such as parts books, CDs, internet websites and parts department
Diagnose systems for cause of failure or potential failure. Disassembles components and inspect parts. Reassembles components and tests machine operation.
Clean, service and lubricate machinery; adjusts systems and controls
- Perform extensive configuration of hydraulic and electrical systems where new systems or modifications to existing systems are required
- Review all repair work orders for accuracy and completeness concerning parts, materials, and labor for approval of equipment to return to service
- Work with other Tractor Mechanics to assist in the fabrication or welding of multi-component parts
- Train maintenance personnel and operators on the safe and efficient use of all equipment
- Operate one or more service trucks, farm machinery to repair sites in the field
- As required, performs machinist work, and operates a welder to fabricate, modify or repair farm equipment
- Complete and track work order number by writing a concise description of machine repairs and task codes and project hours.
Note incomplete repairs or any other relevant observations
- During off season months, perform major mechanical work taking equipment apart, repairing and replacing parts short of a complete engine overhaul
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with repairing, modifying or fabricating farm equipment
- Prior farm equipment experience is preferred
- Proven experience in setting up and diagnosing malfunctions in hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drive systems, diesel and gas engines is required
- Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and be insurable
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish at a fluent level is highly desired
- Produce quality work while maintaining cost controls
- Establish and maintain an organized, clean work area
- Have the willingness and ability to follow safety guidelines and work safely around and with equipment and other personnel
- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to maintain effective working and professional relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and customers;
maintain a balanced outlook during stressful times
