Our incredible DSP's provide one-on-one support to Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID / DD) by following an established support plan and set goals, all while providing a fun and safe environment where Individuals are better equipped for success at home and in the community.

DSP's have daily opportunities to make a BIG difference in the life of an Individual by supporting daily life skills, support community interactions, build a social network, go on outings, and just have FUN!

The work of a Direct Support Worker is directed by a plan of care developed by the Oregon Department of Human Services.

The direct support worker follows the individual service plan for each individual.

Client 1 :

  • Male 13 yrs old NW Portland 97229
  • Desired Schedule : Tue & Thur 3 : 30pm-7 : 30pm, every other Fri 3 : 30pm-10 : 00pm, open to occasional overnights as well as weekends
  • Likes : Gaming, getting outdoors, friends
  • Needs : Help with increasing independence and help with regulating his emotions

Client 2 :

  • Male 13yrs old NW Portland 97229
  • Desired Schedule : Sat & Sun (Flexible) Full time is ideal
  • Likes : Loves trains and elevators and would happily spend hours watching the max train.

Loves bowling and attends bowling every Saturday morning.

Needs : Someone who is kind, friendly, creative, who likes pets as they have dogs and cats.

Someone willing to work on personal space boundaries, safe behavior in the community

Client 3 :

  • Male 12yrs old NW Portland 97229
  • Desired Schedule : Mon-Fri 3 : 00pm-TBD, Sat & Sun Afternoons up to 8 hr shifts
  • Likes : Active and energetic, likes to play
  • Needs : Someone who can engage in play with him

Client 4 :

  • Male 17yrs old NW Portland 97229
  • Desired Schedule : Mon 9 : 30am-2 : 30pm, Tue any hours between 9 : 00am-9 : 00pm, Wed & Thu 5 : 15pm-9 : 15pm, Fri 3 : 00pm-10 : 00pm, Sat & Sun any hrs between 9 : 00am-9 : 00pm
  • Likes : Walks, hiking in the park, swimming at times.

grocery shopping, going for drives, drive thrus and various fast food

Needs : Assistance with ADLS, self care such as toileting, clothing, showering, and eating.

Needs extra attention when eating due to eating too fast.

Needs cues and reminders for various activities.

Someone to take him in the community

Client 5 :

  • Male 13 yrs old NW Portland 97229
  • Desired Schedule : Mon & Wed 3 : 30pm-7 : 30pm, Fri 3 : 30pm-10 : 00pm, Open to occasional overnights as well as weekends
  • Likes : Loves books and gaming devices
  • Needs : Help with getting him into the community, must have own reliable transportation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Deliver training, support, and assistance to the clients in the areas of personal care, recreation and leisure, daily living skills, social skills, health needs, personal preferences, exercising of individual rights, community integration, and behavior management.
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of the clients individualized support plan.

Your observations and opinions are crucial to tailoring an achievable plan.

  • Accurately complete required documentation including but not limited to clocking in and out, weekly progress notes, and communication with the family of the client and the office staff.
  • Ensure clients health and safety at all times including but not limited to prevention of abuse, perform CPR, perform Standard First Aid, and other needs that the client may stand in need of.
  • Work directly with the client / family of the client to ensure the goals of the client are being met and being worked towards
  • Cooking, cleaning, medication assistance, scheduling, attend medical appointments, shopping, and more...
  • Skill development and support is defined in the individual’s Individual service plan
  • Documentation of progress notes with each shift

Qualifications and Education Requirements :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Personal Support : 1 year previous experience (required)
  • Transporting individuals
  • Be certified in CPR and First Aid by a recognized training agency within 90 calendar days of employment.
  • Overall competency in working under pressure
  • Experience in providing general care and support
  • Knowledge of home care services
  • Proficient in written communication
  • Proficient in oral communication
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Understand requirements of maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding individual information.
  • Be literate and capable of understanding written and oral orders.
  • Be able to communicate with individuals, health care providers, case managers, and appropriate others.
  • Be able to respond to emergency situations at all times services are being delivered.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License, Auto Insurance, and reliable transportation in compliance with the laws of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
