Summary Description
Oversees the creation of scenery for each production and manages the Scenic Shop at the Fine Arts Center Theatre Company.
Work location Pay Band 5 Anticipated Salary Range $55,000 to $57,123 per year Pay Information The pay range reflects base pay for positions in a given pay band across the college.
Individual rates are determined within the range by factors including one’s qualifications, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same band and department budget.

- Set a positive and productive tone for all scene shop operations and for creating a safe, welcoming environment for theater staff and visiting artists.
- Supervise and train scenic shop staff, contractors, volunteers and interns assigned to the Technical Director’s department.
Hire and manage additional labor in the scene shop.
Oversee all day-to-day scenic shop activities including equipment, supplies, inventory, shop, stage and scenic storage areas.
Ensure materials and equipment are on hand and ready for ·projects to proceed in the scene shop.
- Create a schedule for executing and delivering the set to coordinate with rehearsal needs and priorities and ensure that deadlines are met.
- Maintain clear communication with theatrical Designers and the Director of each individual production and present solutions-based alternatives to any challenges that arise.
- With the Director of Production, assess feasibility of initial designs in relation to safety and budget; generate accurate and detailed working drawings of all scenic elements;
determine and communicate how best to create all scenic elements from the working drawings.
- Supervise scenic changeovers from production to production. Ensure that the scenery aspects of the production are maintained during the life of each production.
- Consult on and track scenic and shop budgets for each show and, if necessary, make recommendations to the Director of Production for changes to ensure no material or labor budget overruns.
- Does this position require driving CC vehicles / being insurable under CC's insurance plan? No Required Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in areas of theatrical safety, construction, rigging, general carpentry, computer drafting, management of personnel and equipment;
- ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; ability to use basic carpentry and power tools;
personal computer; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Physical requirements include ability to stand for long periods of time; exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently lifting and moving objects;
- frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching; occasional climbing of ladders and scaffolds; frequent carrying of loads up and down stairs;
works in all weather conditions and in very dusty, noisy conditions; occasionally exposed to chemicals and solvents; good vision and hearing essential.
Preferred Qualifications : Experience with related duties in professional theatre company and / or Performing Arts Center.
