Research Program Manager

The Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition is seeking an experienced and qualified Program Manager to work in a dynamic and highly operational environment with particular expertise in managing Department of Defense focused research.

The Program Manager will be expected to work across multiple studies, which will include interfacing with collaborators, stakeholders, and as well as training and managing research assistant staff.

The following skills are required to be considered for this position :

  • Excellent communication, both oral and written
  • Proficiency with basic word processing, data management, and statistical software programs
  • Familiarity with sports medicine and injury prevention research
  • Able to coordinate and oversee large, multifaceted research efforts
  • Familiarity with IRB submissions and clinical research
  • Independently able to contribute to scientific writing, including but not limited to assisting with grant writing, manuscript development and preparation, and development and execution of presentations showcasing current research

Additional capabilities in the following areas are encouraged :

  • Proficiency in using lab equipment such as metabolic cart for maximal exercise and resting metabolic testing, BodPod for body composition
  • Background in personal training

The Program Manager will serve as a contributing member of the multidisciplinary research team and will have the following responsibilities :

  • Subject recruitment, management, and scheduling
  • Overall study management including frequent communication with study staff, interdisciplinary teams outside of the research facility, and the Institutional Review Board as needed
  • Ensuring adherence to IRB protocol and providing regulatory and administrative oversight
  • Independently engage in academic / intellectual endeavors aligned with the research objectives
  • Support study team members in creation of scholarly products

Hours may vary depending on research needs and some travel may be expected.

The NMRL / WHPRC is a state-of-the-science laboratory encompassing 11,600 square feet of space and features state-of-the-science capabilities in exercise physiology, bone adaptation, and morphology (HRpQCT and DEXA), exercise biochemistry, strength, and performance assessments.

The mission of the NMRL / WHPR is to mitigate musculoskeletal injuries and optimize human performance by conducting innovative, multi-disciplinary, basic, and applied research providing evidence and translating scientific knowledge, enhancing clinical decisions and education.

This research will lead to improved quality of life and resiliency in athletic, military, and active populations. Our vision is to be internationally recognized as a premier academic research center and its faculty as thought leaders in human performance optimization and musculoskeletal injury prevention.

Job Summary

Manages and facilitates overall day-to-day research administration activities and operational functions. Collaborates to ensure compliance, productivity, and progress.

Develops and implements program policies and procedures and adheres to protocols, regulations, and budgets. Coordinates program events and logistics.

Performs budgetary functions.

Physical Effort

Physical effort is sometimes required including long periods of standing, the ability to lift 30lbs unassisted, and human performance data collection involving kneeling, reaching, twisting, and lifting.
