SUMMARY

Serves as a member of the College’s Executive Council and is the Chief Student Affairs Officer responsible for student services and programs in support of the College’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Strategic Goals.

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and manages an array of student support and related services and functions : Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs, Student Success and Retention, Student Registration & Records, Advising and Testing, Learning Resources, and Student Development.
  • Responsible for planning, budgeting, personnel management, and resource allocation.
  • Oversees student career and educational development activities including applicable grant-funded initiatives such as TRiO.
  • Practices a student-centric, advocacy approach through collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and community partners to foster student and organizational success.
  • Manages student success and retention and ensures compliance with all operational standards related to financial aid, Veterans Affairs, registration, records, and other supervised areas.
  • Oversees student life-related initiatives including the Student Government Association (SGA) and other student organizations.

  • Serves as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator for student matters.
  • Collaborates with Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Economic and Workforce Development to ensure Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) compliance and reporting per the rules and code set forth by the North Carolina Community College System and State Board of Community Colleges.
  • Supports innovative teaching and learning.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and reports on Student Affairs-related data on subjects such as enrollment and retention, Early Alert and behavioral intervention, and student success.

Recommends and implements programmatic, policy, and related improvement strategies.

Leads organizational development initiatives and performance management activities for the Student Affairs Division including hiring and selection, team development (e.

g., customer-focus), staff evaluation, and professional development.

  • Maintains the Student Handbook and administers the College’s Student Code of Conduct and associated activities.
  • Oversees the College’s graduation ceremony for curriculum students.
  • Collaborates with Academic Affairs and other College functions to develop and publish the College’s official institutional calendar.
  • Attends Board of Trustees and Board of Trustees Committee meetings.
  • Represents the College at various local, state, and national programs and events.
  • Serves on College committees and participates in local, state, and national groups, boards, and / or committees as applicable or when requested.
  • Stays abreast of legal, continuous improvement, and innovation trends for all matters related to Student Affairs and implements programs, services, or changes for optimization.
  • Responsible for the regular review and update of Student Affairs-related policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree required in leadership, higher education, a student or academic support area, , or related field from an institution that is accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Department of Education. Doctorate preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years’ progressive and successful administrative experience in leading and managing in higher education required.
  • Demonstrated competencies in planning and administering student or academic support programs required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Working knowledge of applicable North Carolina and Federal laws such as Title IX, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), The Clery Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and State Board Code preferred.
  • Collaborative leadership style that incorporates organizational, analytical, decision-making, and team-building skills required.
  • Grant writing and management experience preferred.

Physical Demands Requirements

  • Generally works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
  • Some walking, standing, and bending required, and the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • In addition to regular office hours, position requires overtime and / or evening hours.
  • Position requires in-state and out-of-state day and overnight travel mainly by automobile and / or air.
