Our client is a 50-year-old manufacturer of embedded wireless connectivity modules (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) who sells their products to OEMs for integration into their products.
They are seeking a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to join their headquarters in Santa Ana, CA and collaborate closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Regulatory Certification, and Operations.
The ideal candidate is an engineer with strong embedded HW / FW background with good knowledge of C who is able to interact with clients' engineers to customize and integrate company's embedded wireless products into clients' systems.
Some basic networking knowledge is a big plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Be the main technical point of contact for customers throughout their evaluation and design of company products
- Own the process for design wins with company’s most important customers
- Provide answers to customer questions as well as proactively ask customer questions on critical information needed
- Generate Request for Quotations (RFQs) for customers who need custom work / support from engineering or regulatory certification support services
- Track and keep up to date notes, customer communications, project status, and customer issues (cases)
- Maintain, prepare, and present information to the team about important customer projects using PowerPoint
- Drive customers from evaluation to production, while managing all necessary technically oriented customer calls
- Manage post-sales technical issues and support for customers
- Identify and / or enhance application notes, user guides, quick starts, and release notes which set company customer support and engagement apart from our competition
- Help customers debug wireless hardware / software / regulatory, collaborating with FAE team members and engineering as necessary
- Continued education through attending webinars, reading technical papers, and deep-dive sessions given by fellow colleagues
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS :
- B.S. or higher in Electrical / Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
- 5+ years working in similar role : Applications or Hardware or RF or Firmware or Software Engineer
- 3+ years' experience in writing / modifying / debugging
- Basic networking protocol knowledge
- Ability to code in "C" (ANSI C). Experience debugging or modifying embedded device drivers
- Experience using database tools used to technically support customers on resolving technical issues
- Understand hardware (digital) schematics, and basic power design. Ability to reference schematics when probing on hardware
- Test methodology knowledge. Know how to write a test plan and publish test results
- Hands-on ability to use diagnostic tools such as multi-meter, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, wireless sniffer, etc., for debug
- Strong people skills, very good communicator, and presenter. Knows how to win over both team members and customers. Ability to influence customers on why to use company products
- Ability to travel (up to 10%) to support customers on-site or attend trade shows, training events, etc.
PLUS’ QUALIFICATIONS (NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT CRITICAL) :
- Advanced degrees in Electrical / Computer Engineering (Master's, PhD)
- 2+ years direct customer support
- 3+ years' experience in writing / modifying / debugging embedded Linux wireless drivers
- Working knowledge of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, Zigbee, and / or other 802.11 radio protocols
- Advanced knowledge of real-time programming concepts and implementations in "C"
- Salesforce CRM working knowledge
- Advanced documentation skills examples include knowledge of Word templates; Excel pivot tables, Excel conditional formatting;
Outlook advanced searches; and Adobe Pro DC usage
- Hardware layout knowledge. Ability to use rudimentary CAD software to view layout and compare PCB board traces to actual schematic
- Ability to write using automated testing script language such as Python
- Any additional language knowledge is a plus
