Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and communicating data that will provide the Public Health and Wellbeing team with a data-driven, evidence-based approach to infusing wellness across its eight domains (Physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, occupation, environmental, and financial wellness) through inclusive, innovative, and impactful initiatives.

The functions of this position include analyzing data to inform disease prevention efforts, identify patterns to help develop interventions, support evaluation of ongoing health and wellness programs, create a centralized method for evaluating, reporting, and managing transactions for student immunization and insurance requirements, and developing consistent processes and workflows in a new and evolving organization.

This position will also collaborate closely with University data system operators including but not limited to Institutional Research and Advancement, Student Registration and Financial Services, and Data Warehouse, and Penn Medicine.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee the analysis and reporting of population-level metrics on a monthly, semester and annual basis.

  • Build, run, and perform routine analysis of data reports for population-level metrics using multiple data systems including electronic health record systems and national and university-based surveys.
  • Assist public health surveillance reports monthly, semesterly, and annually.
  • Design and implement queries and workflows to manage, report, and support student immunization and insurance requirements and transactions.
  • Assist in evaluation frameworks and data analysis for health education programs and interventions.
  • Create queries and reports in new system(s) (e.g. new electronic medical record) to mirror activities utilized in prior system to maintain disease surveillance efforts.
  • Create new immunization and insurance requirement tracking system.

Evaluate and report on population level data acquired through Wellness at Penn services, including but not limited to :

  • Patient Satisfaction Surveys.
  • National organization surveys and assessments (e.g. American College Health Association's Sexual Health Services Survey, Connected College Health Network Institutional Profile, etc.)
  • General utilization of services.

Participate in large data analysis projects using large datasets, such as the National College Health Assessment III (ACHA-NCHA III).

Create analysis plans and develop reports for the Public Health and Wellbeing team to present findings to inform University and Wellness colleagues on the health and wellness of Penn students.

Develop innovative approaches for data sharing and visualization based on various audiences within the Penn community.

Actively participate in relevant professional organizations.

Qualifications

  • BA / BS and 2 to 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required, Master's degree in public health or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work on a team; excellent written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple data systems and to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including students, faculty members, staff, and university administrators.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software (ex. SAS, SPSS, etc.) and electronic health record systems preferred.
  • Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity and can work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
