POSTING SUMMARY :

Are you looking for an opportunity to get in the door at a growing company? Kemper is looking for someone just like you! As part of the Kemper Life HR Business Partnerships team, you will be part of a team responsible for working as a strategic and operations partner collaborating with senior leaders and managers to provide HR expertise and consulting as they build their organization and talent capabilities.

This position includes a heavy focus on employee relations and HR generalist duties to support Kemper Life sales agency staff and leadership in coordination with Kemper Employee Relations, Legal, and HR Centers of Excellence (COEs).

LOCATION : This position can be located at one of Kemper’s office locations in Chicago, IL, St. Louis, MO, Dallas, TX, or Birmingham, AL.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Oversee and be a direct contributor in the day-to-day HR functions for employee relations including investigations, performance management, onboarding, and policy implementation.
  • Lead and execute the employee relations function to manage workplace issues and maintain a positive employee relations climate through the development and adherence to fair HR policies and practices in partnership with agency field leadership
  • Investigate employee concerns appropriately to obtain facts and determine findings
  • Ensure that documents prepared support investigation findings and maintain compliant records management.
  • Consult with corporate representatives from HR / Employee Relations Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Special Investigations, and outside legal counsel including all levels of leaders as needed and directed.

Offer alternatives and specific recommendations to develop solutions that encourage and support company objectives and philosophies.

  • Assist HR Business Partners with LOA, FML, ADA, WC, and unemployment claims administration.
  • Maintain human resource information system records (HRIS). Enter cases into ER Case Management tool and manage the cases.

Perform regular audits of case management tool to ensure compliant and high standards of quality of documentation.

  • Assist with the day-to-day Human Resource functions in the local office and other assigned business units / offices to provide ongoing support and assistance with the administration of all Employee Relations / Human Resource-related programs, policies, and procedures to drive the recruitment, development, and retention of employees
  • Direct and develop the Life HR Field Manager team, promoting teamwork, responsiveness, and continuous operational improvement

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related field, or equivalent experience, training, and education
  • 7+ years of experience as an HR generalist / employee relations role with increased responsibility
  • Experience supporting a geographically dispersed population required
  • Experience working with a sales / distribution organization preferred
  • Experience working in a transformational environment preferred.
  • Experience working in a financial services / insurance industry preferred
  • HR certification preferred
  • Able to handle moderate level of travel as required
  • Proven ability to lead and develop and HR team, fostering an environment of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Strong operational management skills with a focus on optimizing HR service delivery and processes
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to convey HR policies and procedures clearly and professionally across different levels of the organization
  • Solid experience in handling employee relations issues and knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Structured in thinking process and strong problem-solving skills, the ability to break down complex problems and find solutions with alignment with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to cope with uncertainty, learn fast, and motivated by new and complex challenges
  • Manage information in a visually appealing and easy to understand manner
  • High level of adaptability, capable of managing the dynamic needs of a geographically dispersed workforce
  • This is a hybrid role with weekly reporting into a local Kemper office.
