JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION :

The Materials Evaluation Lab Technician I supports TSMD’s laboratories and technical teams with sample preparation, test preparation and execution, data analysis, and project support.

The Materials Evaluation Lab characterizes the microstructure and physical properties of TSMD’s products. Primary characterization methods include optical and scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), X-ray diffraction, hardness, tensile / yield strength testing, and Keyence image analysis.

Technicians in the MEL Lab prepare samples, operate test equipment, perform routine equipment maintenance, and interface with the laboratory information management system software.

Technicians work with power tools and polishing equipment, as well as acids and solvents in an ISO / ISO certified environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Prepares samples
• Dissecting sputtering targets from manufacturing or clients, Sawing, cutting, and polishing to prep for testing
• Perform laboratory testing
• Microscope analysis
• Chemical testing
• Physical testing hardness, Tensile, strength
• X-ray Diffractions
• Sets up equipment, assemblies, and experiments.
• Collects data per work instructions or experimental plans.
• Prepares reports with data and analysis.
• Supports upper level lab technicians and engineers with project execution.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• High school diploma required (Associates of Science preferred)
• Strong tenure in previous roles (manufacturing or lab environment would be ideal). Number of years of experience isn’t as important as strong tenure in roles.
• Comfortable using power tools
