Job Summary

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities act as amended in 2008, Section 504 of the rehabilitation act of 1973 and the Fair Housing Act, the Case Manager coordinates student accommodations and support services for students with disabilities.

Reporting to the Director of Disability Services, this position works directly with students needing accommodations to enable equal access to Occidental’s academic programs, and provide support for students with various disabilities, including but not limited to : medical, psychological, and learning disabilities.

In addition, in partnership with the Dean of Students Office, the Case Manager serves as a Student Success Advisor, and is a member of Oxy’s Care Team.

Job Duties

40% - Review and assess accommodation requests and documentation for reasonable academic and housing accommodations for students.

Thoroughly participate in the interactive process to ensure students' accommodations needs are met. Maintain comprehensive notes and records of students with disabilities being served by the office.

Explain Disability Services policy and procedures to students, faculty and staff as needed. Ensure that accommodation letters to students are accurate and timely.

Meet with students as needed to offer ongoing support and advise on time management and learning strategies. Make appropriate referrals to other resources and offices.

Advocate on behalf of students within the caseload, serve as a liaison between the student and faculty / staff on disability services / accommodations related issues. - (Essential)

15% - Adhere to FERPA in maintaining records and reports required by the College, state, and federal agencies on programs, policies, and trends.

Engage in ongoing professional development regarding best practices of the ADA and Title III of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504).

Service as test proctor in the testing center as needed. - (Essential)

15% - Assist students by advising them of, and connecting them with, resources across the College to aid in their academic and personal success.

Participate in drop-in office hours for students. Provide ongoing support for Disability Services students through I : I check-ins. - (Essential)

15% - As a member of Oxy’s Care Team, monitor electronic Care reports as they are received and respond, as appropriate, and participate in the weekly Care Team meeting.

Issue recommendations for academic flexibility to professors and others when a student is unable to participate in class or other activities (work, sports, etc.

due to serious illness, injury, or hospitalization. - (Essential)

15% - Assist students with campus policies, procedures and petitions related to the Office of the Registrar, Student Progress Committee petitions, Financial Aid, and Residential Education and Housing Services. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Education Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience with working with individuals with various disabilities, including psychological / psychiatric disorders, learning disabilities, as well as physical disabilities.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret psychological evaluations.
  • Proficient knowledge of ADA and section 504 of the rehabilitation act and awareness of legal and ethical considerations in disability services in higher education.
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive assessment and individualized accommodations plans for students.
  • Ability to manage a full caseload of students and ensure thorough record-keeping.
  • Proficient in the use of various software, including Google Workspace, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Maxient, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Proficient skills in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative, and follow through.
  • Strong critical and logical reasoning, ability to find solutions and adapt plans based on the changing needs of students.
  • Ability to interpret and explain guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and de-escalation skills with the ability to work with sensitive and stressful situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Ability to understand and be empathetic towards students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ensure that all student information is kept confidential, ability to deal with sensitive situations with diplomacy and confidentiality.

EXPECTED HIRING RATE : $66,560 / yr
