ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Literacy in the application of permitting and right of way restrictions and processes. These documents will be required upon completion of a designed project.
  • Safety and Service practices, Subdivision and Building design.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in aerial, buried and underground design and construction methods including but not limited to, conduit, manholes and hand holes etc.
  • Ability to communicate requirements to drafting and encoding personnel for the generation of a customer Engineering Work Order.
  • Ability to interact with the public and other employees in a positive manner and promote a cooperative working environment.
  • Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail and organization; ability to prioritize and complete tasks prior to deadlines.
  • Strong dedication to meeting deadlines with very thorough work as evidenced through strong analytical, quantitative, and Excel skills.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and present information in a manner that facilitates decision making.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills (including public speaking) in English.
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial statements and prepare analytical reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Interpret and follow engineering standards for assigned projects.
  • Use CAD and other software to develop engineering designs.
  • Perform route analysis and develop aerial and underground fiber route maps.
  • Handle fiber verification and mapping activities.
  • Maintain records of fiber splicing and topography.
  • Develop mitigation and restoration procedures for emergencies conditions such as fiber damages, power failures and other disasters.
  • Perform construction and maintenance of OSP infrastructure according to industry standards.
  • Maintain safety and security of OSP facility.
  • Determine scope, budget and schedules for OSP projects.
  • Monitor and control expenses within allotted budget.
  • Communicate project status to Managers on weekly basis.
  • Complete the assigned projects within the defined scope and timelines.
  • Perform routine inspection of OSP networks.
  • Get state and local permits as required to execute OSP projects.
  • Assist in the installation and splicing of fiber optic cables and new underground network facilities, when required.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent; College level courses in AutoCAD drafting / CATV design desired
  • At least 3 years hands-on / field experience designing and construction of Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Optic Cable (UG, Aerial, Buried, BICS) and manhole and conduit design.
  • Strong background in fiber plant support services
  • Knowledge of permitting process
  • Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication and including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks
