Surgical Coder
General Description
Responsibilities include surgical coding for a large Orthopaedic practice. Maintains and expands knowledge of coding and sequencing guidelines to ensure that all healthcare information is accurately assigned the appropriate CPT and ICD-10CM codes, according to coding and reimbursement guidelines.
Responsibilities :
- Manages Orthopaedic surgical coding, ensuring that all phases of the medical billing process are completed in a timely manner according to Company standards.
- Stays current on all orthopaedic coding guidelines and maintains professional licensure and credentials as necessary.
- Handles confidential information regarding patient records with knowledge of release of information policies.
- Contacts physicians as needed to clarify documentation to ensure coding and billing accuracy.
- Assist Surgical Coordinators on coding practices and conventions in order to provide detailed coding information.
- Participate in the development of coding policies and procedures as identified.
- Coordinate, assist, and mentor the work of designated coding employees to ensure quality and quantity of work performed through regular audits.
Qualifications :
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Orthopaedic coding experience a plus.
- Computer skills : Microsoft Outlook; General Use of Internet Explorer; Electronic Medical Records
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and surgical techniques a plus.
- GE Centricity experience a plus
- Communication skills are essential as this position interacts on a daily basis with all practice providers, and other essential staff members regarding coding related issues
