  • The PathSupport Specialist-Pathology Operations reports to the Technical Supervisor of Pathology Operations.
  • The PathSupport Specialist-Pathology Operations works closely and gets directives from the Director of Pathology Operations, the Executive Medical Director and Medical Directors of the Pathology Department.
  • The PathSupport Specialist-Pathology Operations is responsible for the daily Case Release task of the Pathology department.

This position will cover the week-end Case release for the Pathologists.

  • The PathSupport Specialist-Pathology Operations is responsible for monitoring and tracking workload for Contract Pathologists and will perform any additional duties related to this task as needed.
  • This position will assist the Consultation Coordinator with the scheduling of all Pathologists for the tasks of the Pathologist of the Day and Case release, when needed.

The responsibility also includes scheduling the weekly Onsite and Offsite schedule of the Pathologists, when needed.

  • This position provides technical support for the daily operation of the Pathology Department.
  • This position gives clerical support to the Director and Technical Supervisors of Pathology Operations with the task of PathQA.

The responsibilities can include scheduling, entering of data and pulling and assigning QC cases to the Pathologists.

  • This position provides communication support for the daily operation of the Pathology Department. The role will serve as a point of contact for the Pathology department with the other department to include the Pathologist Assistants and Pathology Operation Specialists.
  • This PathSupport Specialist-Pathology Operations supports the Director and Technical Supervisors of Pathology Operations in the training and competencies of the Pathologists.

The responsibility includes schedules, scanning of slides in IMS, scanning of documents to Quality and entering of data and other related tasks as needed.

  • Assist in picking up return to lab and discrepancy cases from Pathologists offices and pulls cases or slides required by the Pathology department.
  • Has a good understanding and working knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems. Log appropriate information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other logs as necessary.
  • Maintains a clean workstation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately prioritize and triage specimens, handles and disposes of specimens and chemical waste based on the laboratorys procedural manual and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors and the company.
  • Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests as required. Maintains all necessary documentation and logs.
  • Reports all concerns of test quality and / or patient or employee safety to a Supervisor or Safety Officer.
  • Maintains laboratory procedures. Ensures compliance to applicable policies and procedures by laboratory personnel. Recommends changes as needed.
  • Performs and documents the operation, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of microdissection equipment.
  • Communicates and keeps Supervisor and / or other management team abreast of laboratory problems and non-conformities.
  • Accept as needed to perform other related duties and special projects to support the Pathology department as required.
  • Bachelor degree in a field of science from an accredited institution preferred.
  • 0 to 1 year of experience
  • Relevant qualifications in the technical aspects of pathology.
  • Fosters a unified culture and promote a positive work environment by collaboration, cooperation, sharing of information and mutual teamwork.
  • Ability to work under routine and stressful situations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Practical and current knowledge in all appropriate laboratory disciplines.
  • Experience in working with a team of microdissection technicians within a CLIA certified environment (preferred).
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards and chemicals, as well as quality control procedures and regulations.
  • Strong quantitative skills. Proven problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proven attention to detail with effective organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and team skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
  • Drive for Results (Service, Quality, and Continuous Improvement) Ensure procedures and processes are in place that lead to delivery of quality results and continually reassess their effectiveness to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Requires a high degree of care and attention with strict adherence to defined clinical testing protocols.

  • Customer Service Focus Demonstrate a focus on listening to and understanding client / customer needs and then delighting the client / customer by exceeding service and quality expectations.
  • Will work at a computer some of the time as well as need to keep inventory and ordering records requiring the use of copiers, fax machines, and PDF scanners.
  • Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment and perform sterile techniques as required.
  • Must possess ability to sit and / or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • May have exposure to high noise levels in the data center, fumes and bio-hazardous material in the lab environment. Exposure to formaldehyde, xylene, DAB and alcohol which emit fumes.

The formaldehyde, xylene, and DAB are carcinogenic.

  • May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents.
  • Must possess ability to use a microscope for extended periods of time.
  • May have exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and biohazardous material / chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
