Chief Experimental Facilities Technician
Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Facilities / Laboratory Technical Assistant to support the design, installation, modification, and maintenance of unique material science laboratory equipment.
This position will support highly skilled research staff, to devise innovative solutions for their experimental needs. Utilizing a strong electromechanical background, you will support electrical and mechanical troubleshooting of existing equipment and the layout, specification, procurement, and installation of new laboratory equipment.
Candidates must be capable of developing and presenting innovative solutions to solve unique technical problems. This position primarily consists of planning and hands-on assembly, and installation of equipment in laboratory settings.
Candidates are expected to perform independent assignments with limited direction. May supervise work of non-exempt technicians.
Position Requirements
Previous experience wiring 120, 208, 240 and / or 480V electrical installations.
Knowledge of mechanical and / or electrical engineering principles, practices, codes, and standards, as applied to maintenance, operations, and modifications of research facilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of complex electronic, mechanical, and vacuum apparatus.
Experience with experimental equipment installation, design, troubleshooting, repair, setup, and operation.
Interface with scientists to understand equipment issues and determine resolution strategies.
Design, plan, procure and install unique laboratory equipment.
Efficiently and safely plan work activities in collocated laboratories.
Must maintain knowledge and awareness of Laboratory policies and procedures and work in compliance daily.
Ability to become a qualified electrical worker (QEW)
Self-starter who can independently manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Ability to use independent judgment to make decisions and solve problems.
Collaborate and communicate across all levels of the organization including with principal investigators, subject matter experts, facility engineers, group leaders and division directors.
Excellent oral and written.
Proficient in operation of a personal computer and Microsoft office suite
Ability to become a radiological worker.

ST3 : Technical Institute or AA Degree and 7+ years of related experience.
ST4 : Technical Institute or AA Degree and 9+ years of related experience.
