Chemical Plant

Salary : Up to 120,000 + Bonus

Overview :

The Process Engineer (Mechanical Integrity and Process Safety) is tasked with leading the mechanical integrity and process safety programs at the polystyrene plant.

This role ensures compliance with PSM requirements and corporate process safety policies, standards, and work processes, with a focus on the mechanical integrity aspect of PSM.

Acting as a subject matter expert, the engineer drives robust mechanical integrity performance and fosters a strong process safety culture within the plant.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Manage plant mechanical integrity efforts, including inspections and repairs of vessels, piping, and relief devices, as well as overseeing the corrosion under insulation (CUI) program and testing and maintenance of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and preventive maintenance of mechanical integrity covered equipment (MICE).
  • Oversee the plant process safety program to enhance performance and ensure adherence to PSM requirements and corporate process safety policies, work processes, and standards (e.

g., pre-startup safety reviews, management of change, process hazard analysis).

  • Conduct risk assessment techniques, such as process hazard analyses and layers of protection analysis, and recommend risk evaluation methods for new projects.
  • Lead or participate in plant incident investigations to determine root causes, particularly those related to process safety.
  • Provide training to plant personnel on process safety and mechanical integrity program procedures, as well as hazard recognition.
  • Serve as the Management of Change (MOC) coordinator for the site and maintain process safety information.
  • Analyze and report mechanical integrity and process safety metrics, leveraging networks within to identify and address improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure timely completion of action items resulting from process safety gaps identified during PHAs, audits, investigations, and self-assessments, and manage the facility’s action item process.
  • Act as the plant’s subject matter expert in mechanical integrity and process safety.
  • Initiate and manage small projects and capital projects related to mechanical integrity and process safety improvements.

Job Requirements :

  • Possess an engineering degree, preferably in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • Have practical working knowledge of mechanical integrity-related industry codes and standards (ASME, NACE, API 570 / 510 / 653).
  • Preferred 5-7 years of experience in a PSM-covered facility, though entry-level applicants may be considered.
  • Demonstrate skills and interest in mechanical integrity and process safety.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships across all levels of the organization.

Must be capable of collaborating and generating solutions that balance process safety with manufacturing needs.

Be willing to travel periodically (i.e., 2-3 trips per year).
