Position Summary :
The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description-Reporting : This position falls under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Civic Engagement
Job Description-Job Duties and / or Responsibilities : The Graduate Assistant for Civic Engagement will work with fellow staff members to coordinate and advise OLCE program initiatives and support the overall function of the office.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Co-coordinate with the Assistant Director, signature event community service programming including the Volunteer Fair and the Empty Bowls program.
- Recruit, select, and advise student and / or staff planning team and participants for community dialogue programs.
- Assist with initiatives geared towards increasing civic and democratic engagement, including voting among students, staff, and faculty
- Coordinate weekly OLCE newsletter and expand other communication tools and educational resources to campus and community constituents.
- Serve on the facilitation team for the Bronze Experience of the Spartan Leadership Challenge.
- Support on-going assessment (reports, data analysis, etc.) and accountability for program outcomes.
- Participate in OLCE office wide programming including the SECU Internship, Changemaker Week planning committee, Changemaker of the Month program, Spartan Leadership Challenge Medallion Ceremony and Days of Service.
- Provide support to OLCE’s operations and programs as necessary, as well as other duties as assigned.
Work Hours, Environment : This position is co-located in an OLCE office space with other OLCE GAs. Each GA has their own desk area. Work is mainly completed in the office, though some programming takes place in different areas around campus. This position is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week during the traditional fall and spring semesters.
Additional Terms of Employment : Start date is in the first week of August. This position is traditionally hired as a 2-year Graduate Assistantship.
