LAC Federal is seeking a qualified Inspector to perform essential quality control review on a variety of materials from different collections at a prestigious federal library in Washington, DC.

The Inspector will conduct quality review of work completed by another project in the processing Monographs, Serials, and / or other item types as needed.

The Inspector will verify the items have been accurately physically processed, and will check the Item, Holdings, and Bibliographic records for errors.

The inspector is expected to review at least 25 items per hour with a high rate of accuracy. This is a full time (40 hours a week, Monday to Friday) benefited position.

The work must be performed on-site.

Requirements

Qualifications :

  • 1-2 years of work experience in a library (Technical Services)
  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school (preferred)
  • Experience working with Technical Services procedures, online catalogs, MARC records, and / or basic cataloging processes
  • Experience in reviewing completed work of others and providing feedback
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and exceed fixed production quotas
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to provide consistent quality control results
  • Experience working with Excel, for compiling statistics and other data
  • Ability to work with library materials in various languages, sufficient to perform quality control

Physical Requirements :

Must be able to move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve delicate books, lift, push / pull, hold / carry items weighing up to 25 pounds;

walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb

Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens and detailed paperwork
