Job Description

Job Description

Description :

Toole Design Group in Portland, ME is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Principal Civil Engineer. Do you have a strong background in civil engineering with final roadway design experience? Do you desire to be a part of a collaborative design process for safe streets and sustainable multimodal transportation projects? Would you like to work for a firm that is committed to the well-being of its employees? If so, please consider joining our team in Portland.

This engineering position with a focus on final design construction plan development and corridor modeling earns a competitive salary with a possible annual bonus, and great benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement, a health savings account (HSA), and a flexible spending account (FSA). All staff receive 8 holidays and earn at least 16 days of PTO over the course of the year. We practice what we preach and ensure that our employees also have access to transportation by providing them with financial incentives to bike, walk, or use transit for a better quality of life.

A Day in the Life of a Principal Engineer

As a Principal Engineer, you will lead and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs like AutoCAD in order to fulfill production work on your projects as needed and / or supervise others doing that production work. You will manage projects and guide your team through design development, design review, bid package development, permitting, and answering questions during construction. You will work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.

You’ll be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, delivering projects to construction. You will play a key role in implementing the firm’s quality initiatives and in supporting business development and project pursuits. In an industry that is constantly changing, you’ll be at the forefront of delivering creative solutions to challenging projects.

We are targeting a salary range of $175,000-$200,000 for this position.

Work Schedule for a Principal Engineer

This full-time position typically works a hybrid schedule of 40 hours a week with three days in the office. We provide employees with the necessary equipment to work from home.
