Join Our Team as a Locum Nurse Practitioner - General Medicine
Are you a dedicated Nurse Practitioner with a passion for providing exceptional care to Veterans? We are seeking highly motivated Locum Nurse Practitioners to fulfill General Medicine roles in Houston, TX, supporting our nation's heroes through Veteran Evaluation Services (VES). This is a compelling opportunity to make a difference while enjoying flexible scheduling and competitive compensation.
This essential role involves conducting Compensation and Pension exams and Separation Health Assessments for Veterans. You will perform interview-based evaluations, physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing, without prescribing or treating. Your work will directly contribute to Veterans’ wellbeing, offering vital insights that inform their benefits and health status.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct one-time non-treatment exams and health assessments for Veterans.
- Perform interviews and physical assessments in adherence to established protocols.
- Complete evaluations within designated timeframes and submit detailed reports.
- Maintain compliance with all guidelines and provide accurate documentation.
Required Skills:
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license issued by the State of Texas or eligible for licensure.
- Experience or background in general medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or orthopedic surgery preferred.
- Strong interview skills and physical assessment capabilities.
- Excellent organizational and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and adhere to strict timelines.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience with compensation and pension exams.
- Familiarity with veteran healthcare requirements and protocols.
- Certification in relevant clinical areas.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN or relevant).
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in general medicine or related fields.
- Previous experience in a medico-legal or assessment setting is advantageous.
Other Requirements:
- Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the specified city or have an existing private office within this radius for conduct of evaluations.
- Available to work on a PRN basis, with flexibility for half-day (4 hours) or full-day (8 hours) shifts.
- Willingness to travel locally; travel costs included in rates.
- Successful completion of onboarding, including training modules (training and portal setup not reimbursed).
Compensation for each shift is structured to reward efficiency, with a flat rate of $600 for half-day (4 hours or less) and $1200 for a full day (5 hours or more). A one-time bonus of $650 is available upon completing initial training and performing your first exams. The hourly pay rate is $402.00, with no overtime or holiday rates applicable.
