Sous Chef

Location : Quail Park Communities - Visalia, CA

Employment Type : Full-Time

Pay : $22 / hourPosition Overview

The Sous Chef supports the Director of Signature Dining with culinary operations and administrative tasks, ensuring excellence in food preparation, safety, cleanliness, and service delivery. This role includes scheduling, inventory and budget control, staff training, and direct meal preparation-all to deliver a superior dining experience for our residents and guests.Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Completion of a certified culinary arts training program (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of food service experience; at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in both restaurant and senior living settings strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in multi-venue dining environments (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of dining room operations, cooking methods, and dietary needs of seniors
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and committed to excellent customer service
  • Able to read / write / speak English fluently; basic computer skills required
  • Must have current CPR / First Aid and Food Handler certifications
  • Must meet all health, food safety, and continuing education requirements per California RCFE regulations
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, TB test, and background check

Essential Job Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Assist the Director in managing team schedules and daily task assignments
  • Maintain budgetary controls, inventory levels, and regulatory compliance
  • Train and direct kitchen team during shifts; fill in for Director as needed
  • Collaborate with Dining Room Manager; assist with dining staff and floor service coverage
  • Food Service Operations

  • Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of food, small wares, and equipment
  • Support menu planning to ensure appeal and nutritional value
  • Maintain safe food handling practices and clean, sanitary kitchen conditions
  • Routinely prepare and cook meals; ensure high-quality presentation
  • Engage with residents, families, and guests to uphold satisfaction and gather feedback
  • Help organize and support food-related events, parties, and marketing functions
  • General Duties

  • Attend team meetings and required trainings
  • Uphold residents' rights and company policies
  • Maintain reliable attendance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
