Job Description
Our client, a premium debt fund focused on providing bridge and construction finance to real estate professionals, builds long-term relationships by delivering a superior client experience seeks an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO ) to join their small but growing, entrepreneurial team.
The COO works closely with the firm's CEO and Partner overseeing a range of functional responsibilities including, but not limited to administration, finance, and operations, loan production and portfolio management, investor relations and investment committee, along with market intelligence and strategic planning.
The ideal COO candidate possesses 15-20+ years' experience in commercial real estate lending with a well-rounded career comprising "tours of duty" in credit / underwriting, relationship management, portfolio management, and leadership / administration roles.
The COO will intimately understand the full lifecycle of a loan from prospecting for new clients to working with borrowers through initial credit analysis and structuring, closing and onboarding, workouts (as needed), servicing through maturity, and maintaining strong client relationships.
The ideal COO is self-motivated, analytically minded, and a strong, emotionally intelligent communicator. They're a leader and an individual contributor to the overall financial health, cultural well-being, and future of the firm.
This role is primarily remote, but the CEO is located in the Phoenix / Scottsdale Arizona Metro, and would like their COO to live nearby or in an adjacent metro to allow for in-person meetings as needed.
A day in the life of the successful COO includes, but is not limited to :
- Overseeing a robust new business pipeline, and assisting in the coaching, performance management, and leadership of the firm's relationship management / business development team
- Utilizing effective storytelling, marketing, and business development techniques to engage with the CRE community at conferences, events, on social media, and in the press (as needed)
- Monitoring unresolved and upcoming maturities, troubleshooting ongoing individual loan and portfolio challenges, reviewing asset and portfolio health through valuations and inspection, and reviewing geographic spread of risk, insurance, and taxes
- Assisting the CEO & CFO with the financial management of the firm, including issues with financial reporting, taxes, payments & collections, banking relationship changes, and monitoring important timing deadlines
- Participating in the leadership of Investment Committee, including meeting planning, and preparing / distributing agendas for virtual & in-person events
- Collaborating with the CEO & firm Partners in cultivating long-term, successful relationships with key stakeholders, including; individual accredited investors, RIAs, family offices, referral partners, and industry though leaders
- Staying abreast of macro and microeconomic trends impacting the CRE credit and lending landscape, and adjusting business operations as necessary to mitigate risk
- Collaborating with the CEO to chart the strategic course of the firm, gaining the buy-in from key Investors, Partners, and Team members necessary to successfully execute the plan
- Addressing insurance needs of the firm & fund(s), including professional, liability, property, and IT
- Collaborating with CEO & firm Partners to effectively recruit, hire, and onboard new team members to achieve firm goals
