Aerospace Mechanical Assembler – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This role focuses on high-volume, repetitive mechanical and electronic assembly work in a fast-paced military and defense production facility in Santa Ana, CA. You will assemble and test mechanical assemblies, wire harnesses, junction boxes, and related components using a variety of hand and power tools, while following blueprints, wiring diagrams, and detailed assembly instructions. This is a 2nd shift position (2:30 .–11:00 with regular opportunities for overtime during the week and on Saturdays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repetitive mechanical assembly of high-quality mechanical assemblies, wire harnesses, test racks, junction boxes, and associated components according to engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Use common hand tools and power tools such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, multimeters, and test boxes to assemble and verify components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to complete assemblies accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform hand soldering and component fabrication as required for electronic and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Carry out validation and testing of electronic components using equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, RF test systems, and test racks.
  • Inspect assemblies and components for quality, ensuring they meet specifications and standards before moving to the next stage of production.
  • Troubleshoot electronic box assemblies, PCBA assemblies, and RF systems, and document issues by writing clear and detailed issue tickets for failures.
  • Run functional checkouts and tests on completed assemblies, identify issues discovered during these processes, and work to diagnose and resolve them.
  • Apply common air-frame construction techniques such as installing rivets, mechanical fasteners, nut plates, and similar hardware when required.
  • Work productively in a high-paced production environment with a goal of contributing to a team output of approximately 5,000 units per month.
  • Rapidly adapt to changing roles and responsibilities based on production needs while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
  • Use computers for standard browser tasks, word processing, documentation, and test or assembly-related software as needed.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with engineering, production, and other team members to clarify requirements, report issues, and support continuous improvement.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment such as steel toe or composite toe footwear.
  • Be available for overtime and occasional weekend shifts as production demands require.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment, such as aerospace, electronics, or medical device production, performing mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong proficiency with common hand tools and power tools, including pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, and multimeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams and follow detailed assembly instructions.
  • Working knowledge of common electrical components and their functions within assemblies.
  • Proficiency using computers for standard browser tasks and word processing applications to support documentation and communication.
  • Ability to perform repetitive mechanical assembly work while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Capability to work effectively in a high-paced, production-driven environment with demanding output goals.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electronic, and PCBA assemblies, including diagnosing and resolving issues discovered during testing.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with engineering and production teams.
  • Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities based on shifting priorities and production needs.
  • Ability and willingness to work 2nd shift hours (approximately 2:30 .–11:00 and to support overtime and weekend work when needed.
  • Steel toe or composite toe safety shoes or boots, as required for the role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, electronics, or medical manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly in a repetitive, high-volume production setting.
  • Experience performing hand soldering and component fabrication for electronic assemblies.
  • Familiarity with electronic box assembly and troubleshooting, including documenting issues through detailed tickets.
  • Experience performing validation and testing of electronic components using multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, RF test systems, and test racks.
  • Experience in common air-frame construction techniques, including installing rivets, mechanical fasteners, and nut plates.
  • Experience with PCBA (printed circuit board assembly) testing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform inspection tasks to verify assembly quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Comfort using specialized test equipment, software tools, and integration processes related to mechanical and electronic assemblies.

Work Environment

The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, with a team goal of producing around 5,000 units per month. You will use a wide range of hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, soldering equipment, and electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, RF test systems, and test racks. The facility is part of a large, growing organization that is expanding and has secured funding to build a new facility, offering a sense of long-term growth and investment in infrastructure. Steel toe or composite toe safety shoes or boots are required as part of the on-site safety attire.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
