CNC Programmer Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer Specialist to provide complex programming support for machining parts, tools, and sheet metal components from engineering design through finished production.

The selected candidate will develop, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC programs, select tooling and machining parameters, and support production teams to ensure parts meet dimensional specifications and equipment operates efficiently.

This position requires familiarity with 5-axis programming and a thorough understanding of machining processes, tooling, cutting paths, feeds, and speeds.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on machine operation experience and understand how programming decisions affect machining performance. Equipment includes Haas and Mazak machines. Creo CAM is the primary programming software, but candidates with experience using other CAM platforms may be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop complex CNC programs to support machining of parts, tools, and sheet metal components.
• Create, update, and improve manufacturing processes and machine instructions.
• Select cutting tools, machining sequences, speeds, and feeds based on part requirements, material characteristics, and machine control limitations.
• Analyze engineering drawings, sketches, and design data to determine machining requirements.
• Calculate angular and linear dimensions, radii, curvatures, and other geometric requirements.
• Develop efficient program routines and sequences of operations.
• Determine the dimensions and configurations of complex cuts.
• Coordinate and oversee program prove-outs, including related procedures, documentation, and communication.
• Verify program accuracy against original programming requirements and engineering documentation.
• Prepare geometric layouts and identify reference points and cutting paths using drafting or computer-assisted tools.
• Modify existing programs to incorporate engineering changes and improve machining performance.
• Identify and correct programming errors or omissions.
• Evaluate proposed changes to manufacturing methods and materials.
• Analyze production data and recommend improvements to quality, efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
• Support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead special projects and coordinate cross-functional activities as assigned.
• Establish project goals, objectives, and required deliverables.
• Train and mentor less experienced employees.
• Serve as a technical resource to resolve programming and manufacturing problems.
• Maintain technical knowledge through training, workshops, and technical publications.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a related trade school program, associate degree, or equivalent external training in numerical control programming.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the position's responsibilities, typically acquired through 7 or more years of directly related experience.
• Extensive knowledge of numerical control programming principles, concepts, techniques, and programming language.
• Familiarity with 5-axis CNC programming.
• Thorough knowledge of CNC tooling, machining sequences, and appropriate speeds and feeds for different materials.
• Ability to correct and optimize CNC programs.
• Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and the ability to develop part processes that integrate effective programming practices.
• Ability to apply continuous improvement methods to design and manufacturing activities.
• Ability to analyze complex technical problems, evaluate alternatives, and develop practical solutions.
• Ability to establish project goals and coordinate activities across multiple teams.
• Ability to use applicable business software and specialized programming, design, data analysis, or database tools.
• Ability to read and interpret policies and recommend procedural improvements.
• Strong analytical skills, including defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing sound conclusions.
• Effective communication and presentation skills with team members, team leaders, and management.
• Ability to participate in goal-setting, performance feedback, and professional development activities.
• Ability to work onsite in Glendale, Arizona.
• Availability to work Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM, with occasional schedule adjustments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on CNC machine operation experience, including progression from CNC machining into programming.
• Experience with Haas or Mazak equipment.
• Experience using Creo CAM.
• Experience programming metal machining operations.
• Experience leading technical projects or mentoring less experienced programmers.

Work Environment

• Onsite CNC programming and manufacturing environment in Glendale, Arizona.
• Regular collaboration with engineering, machining, production, and project teams.
• Work involves CNC programs, engineering drawings, tooling plans, and machining process development.
• Equipment includes Haas and Mazak machines.
• Primary schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM.
• Occasional schedule adjustments may be needed to support the end of 3rd Shift, operating Sunday–Thursday, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM, or the start of 2nd Shift, operating Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM.
• Position is salaried non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
