Department Summary

The Department of Medical Education at TCOM is seeking a teaching Assistant Professor, non-tenured. This role is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, faculty development initiatives, courses, trainings, and academic activities designed for a all groups of health professions educators and clinical professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, residents, fellows, and other healthcare providers.

Position Overview

This Assistant Professor will collaborate across UNT Health and affiliated clinical training programs to support curriculum development, faculty development, educational innovation, assessment design, and program evaluation efforts. Responsibilities include the development and facilitation of workshops, longitudinal educational programming, and online learning experiences that support teaching excellence, competency-based education, and learner success across undergraduate and graduate medical education.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned terminal degree (PhD, EdD, MD, DO, or equivalent terminal degree) in education, health professions education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, medical education, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, curriculum development, instructional design, and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of faculty development, competency-based education, learner assessment, feedback strategies, and program evaluation principles.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and collaborative initiatives simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, institutional leaders, residency programs, and interprofessional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems, and educational technologies.
  • Ability to facilitate engaging educational experiences in online, hybrid, and in-person environments.
  • Experience in curriculum development, faculty development, health professions education, educational programming, or academic program administration.
  • Experience facilitating educational sessions, workshops, or training programs for adult learners.
  • Experience with instructional design principles and educational technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments, disciplines, and professional groups.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), or interprofessional education.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating faculty development programming.
  • Experience with competency-based medical education, learner assessment, and program evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience with Canvas or other learning management systems and online course development.
  • Record of scholarly presentations, publications, or educational research activities.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or presentations at regional or national conferences.
  • Experience working with residency programs, preceptors, or clinical faculty.

Job Duties

  • Develop, design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate educational programs, faculty development initiatives, courses, trainings, and academic activities for all groups of health professions educators and clinical professionals.
  • Design and facilitate educational programming utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies, adult learning principles, experiential learning, and competency-based educational frameworks.
  • Develop, review, and revise curricular materials, educational resources, assessment tools, workshop materials, and online learning content to support educational programming and learner development.
  • Collaborate with faculty, residency programs, departments, and institutional partners to support curriculum development, educational innovation, learner assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Design and facilitate educational programming utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies, adult learning principles, experiential learning, and competency-based educational frameworks.
  • Present workshops, seminars, and educational sessions within the Faculty Development Center, Graduate Certificate in Academic
  • Medicine program, residency programs, institutional educational initiatives, and regional and national conferences.
  • Serve as an active participant in departmental meetings, institutional committees, faculty development initiatives, and collaborative educational projects across UNT Health and affiliated clinical training programs.
  • Support mentoring, coaching, and professional development activities for faculty, residents, fellows, preceptors, and students.
