Job Title: Emergency Room RN Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Duration: Permanent Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Emergency Room License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS; TNCC preferred Must-Have: Must have at least two years of Emergency Room experience with Trauma Level I and II experience accumulated in the past two to three years. If only Level III or lower, cannot be accepted. Gun shot wound and stabbing experience is a bonus. Description: Position involves working in a Level 3 trauma center. Will ship out if stroke intervention is required. There are 52 beds with 4 trauma bays. The facility has 6 fast track beds. Quick look triage area has 2 areas. Emergency Severity Index (ESI) is used for triage. ER holds are intermixed within the ER. No seclusion rooms are available. Security is in-house 24/7, with an office near the lobby of the emergency department. On average, 200 patients are treated in the ER per day. Ratios are 1:5 for medical patients and 1:6 for fast track. Common diagnoses include any and all emergency needs. ICU drips are administered for hold patients, with ICU assistance available if able. ED physicians, mid-levels, and pediatric board-certified staff work varied shifts. Charge Nurse is not assigned to each shift; House Supervisor can assist if needed. ED techs with 2 or more years of experience are present on each shift for EKG, vitals, blood draws, and splints. Patient Care Assistants have less than 2 years of experience and share similar responsibilities. Respiratory Therapy is assigned for ventilation, nebulizer treatments, and ABG draws. Dedicated CT and X-ray are available in the ER, and a transport team is present for critical patients. ED techs can perform lab draws, and RNs can draw off IV starts. Shift scheduling varies with start times, promoting modified self-scheduling. Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block. Holiday requirements typically involve working 2 of the 5 holiday shifts. Floating is shared with another facility, typically scheduled in advance. Scrub color is navy blue. Orientation includes one NEO day, one clinical day, and one day on the floor.
