MalaceHR is seeking a Data Center Operating Engineer responsible for the reliable operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical facility infrastructure. This role ensures optimal performance of all data center electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, and cooling systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to 100% up-time.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on building systems to ensure continuous operation and maximum up-time.
Oversee fire / life safety systems, HVAC, chillers, CRAC / CRAH units, plumbing, and controls.
Support electrical systems, including UPS, ATS, STS, PDUs, generators, switchgear, power distribution, and transformers.
Operate and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, boilers, water heaters, pumps, valves, and related equipment.
Record operational data, monitor system performance, and adjust as necessary.
Analyze and troubleshoot system malfunctions, taking corrective action as required.
Adhere to safety standards for the storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Respond to incidents and emergencies, ensuring critical systems remain operational.
Manage work orders, CMMS processes, vendor coordination, and customer-facing tickets.
Follow escalation and emergency response procedures.
Perform additional duties as required.
Physical Requirements
Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and overhead work.
Ability to walk large campus-like settings.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and safely climb ladders (up to 30 ft, 300-lb weight limit).
Comfortable working from heights and rooftops.
Ability to work flexible schedules, including holidays.
Must be available for on-call response to site emergencies.
Qualifications
Required
2+ years of experience in a data center or critical facility environment.
Knowledge of building systems, including UPS, generators, and switchgear.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and CMMS.
Preferred
Experience with Corrigo CMMS.
Universal EPA 608 certification.
NFPA 70E training.
