POSITION OVERVIEW
The Development Director leads and executes all fundraising activities, with a focus on major gifts, institutional giving, donor stewardship, and development strategy. This role builds relationships with individual donors, foundations, and Catholic philanthropic partners to advance the mission and meet annual revenue goals of $2 million or more.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MAJOR GIFT FUNDRAISING
* Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors with capacity of $25,000 or more
* Manage a portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects using moves management strategies
* Conduct in-person and virtual donor meetings; prepare proposals, presentations, and case statements
* Secure gifts ranging from $25,000 to $1,000,000+
INSTITUTIONAL GIVING
* Research and pursue foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities
* Oversee grant program and build relationships with Catholic foundations and faith-based funders
STRATEGY & LEADERSHIP
* Create and execute annual fundraising plans with $2M+ revenue goals
* Oversee annual giving, major gifts, special events, and capital campaigns
* Track fundraising performance and analyze donor data to improve results
* Develop stewardship and recognition programs to increase donor retention
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT & OPERATIONS
* Build long-term relationships with donors aligned with Catholic values
* Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and staff; support board in donor cultivation
* Represent the organization at community events and Catholic conferences
* Manage development budget, supervise development staff, and coordinate with marketing
* Maintain accurate donor records, ensure timely gift acknowledgments, and uphold ethical standards
TRAVEL
Frequent domestic travel required (40-60% of work time) for donor meetings and conferences.
QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
* 7+ years of professional fundraising experience with a proven track record securing major gifts of $50,000+
* Experience raising at least $1 million annually; capital campaign or endowment experience preferred
* Strong major gift fundraising, donor stewardship, and grant writing skills
* Proficiency with donor CRM systems (HubSpot, DonorPerfect, or similar)
* Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
MISSION ALIGNMENT
* Knowledge of Catholic social teaching and nonprofit culture
* Understanding and commitment to Theology of the Body and NFP precepts
* Ability to articulate mission impact to donors and funders
* Experience with Catholic organizations, dioceses, or parishes preferred
EDUCATION
* Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
* CFRE certification preferred
