Job description

Job Title: Civil Project Engineer

Job Description

The Civil Project Engineer designs and delivers public-sector infrastructure projects that meet stringent approval requirements, fixed budgets, and high levels of scrutiny. This role focuses on site development, land development, and infrastructure design for sectors such as education, healthcare, and public works, ensuring that solutions are technically sound, economically viable, and constructible in the field. The engineer integrates diverse agency standards, coordinates with public utilities and infrastructure stakeholders, and produces high-quality construction documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

  • Design civil engineering solutions that prioritize approval certainty as well as technical correctness, ensuring projects can successfully navigate agency review and permitting processes.
  • Develop site and infrastructure designs for public-sector, education, healthcare, and other civic projects where budgets are fixed and oversight is rigorous.
  • Incorporate city, county, and special district standards into project designs, adapting to varying requirements by jurisdiction.
  • Coordinate with public infrastructure stakeholders, including utilities, drainage, traffic, and levee authorities, to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
  • Design and produce detailed construction documents for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including grading, site layout, drainage, utilities, and roadway elements.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D software to create, refine, and document civil engineering designs and plans.
  • Perform site development and land development design, including grading, site design, and utility layout.
  • Address drainage and traffic engineering considerations within project designs, integrating them into overall infrastructure plans.
  • Collaborate closely with clients, technical staff, and leadership to align project objectives, resolve design challenges, and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage and multitask across multiple agency reviews, responding to late-stage review comments and adjusting designs as needed to maintain compliance and constructability.
  • Balance creativity with real-world constraints, developing designs that are buildable, cost-effective, and responsive to project-specific challenges and opportunities.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for civil design and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D for modeling, design, and production of construction documents.
  • Experience in the design and production of infrastructure construction documents.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, technical staff, and management.
  • Demonstrated experience in civil engineering design for infrastructure, site development, or related projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple reviews and design iterations while maintaining accuracy and compliance with agency standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on public-sector projects in areas such as education, healthcare, and municipal infrastructure.
  • site development, land development, and site design, including grading and utility layout.
  • Knowledge of drainage and traffic engineering principles as they relate to civil infrastructure design.
  • Familiarity with city, county, and special district design standards and approval processes.
  • Ability to balance creative problem-solving with practical, buildable, and cost-conscious design approaches.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a desire to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.

Work Environment

The role offers a hybrid work environment, with time split between the office and working from home after an initial 90-day period. You will work with modern civil engineering design tools, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, in a setting that emphasizes collaboration with clients, technical staff, and leadership. The project portfolio provides variety and continuous learning, as each assignment presents unique constraints and opportunities that support professional growth and development.
