The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solutions providers - striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them.
Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Energy Management is responsible for the $45M campus utilities budget which consists roughly $25M in expenditures, $15M in recharge, and $5M in debt payments.
Your Role on the Team
Install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment to include; transformers, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic recording instruments, mechanical and electronic control systems, and other circuit elements found in substations and / or power-generating facilities. Install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines. Perform service on underground lines, substations, transformers, insulators, capacitor equipment, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, ground connects, and similar equipment. Prepare estimates, and plan and manage own projects within allotted budgets. Also plan the sequence of work and determine the nature of maintenance or repair needed. Determine the effects that alterations will have on the total system and for insuring that lines and equipment function properly. Responsible for providing technical assistance to lower grade workers.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required :
- 1. Journeyman Electrician.
- 2. Minimum of five years' experience performing skilled high voltage work
- 3. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for high voltage equipment and lines.
- 4. Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines such as transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel, circuits, line loading, line losses.
- 5. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices.
- 6. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices and ability to operate safely.
- 7. Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as oscillators, phase sticks and rotation meters, digital test equipment, fault finding equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers, graphic recorders, hot sticks, and insulated hoods / covers and tools.
- 8. Ability to use energy isolation procedures and special precautionary techniques (lockout / tagouts, barricades, warning signs, etc.)
- 9. Knowledge and experience to maintain and use personal protective equipment, insulating and shielding materials, insulated tools, grounding devices, and test instruments.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $117,575.28- $117,575.28 (Annual).
