Job description

About Wellth :

Use your engineering experience to help people live healthier

Wellth is a fast-growing digital health startup headquartered in Los Angeles that recently raised a Series B from leading investors, including SignalFire. Our mission is to provide daily care motivation to people living with chronic conditions so they can make healthier choices every day.

We don't assume that just providing a tool or a beautiful app will get results. We use behavioral economics, habit science, and technology to motivate and sustain behavior change in some of the US's highest-need and most underserved populations (think Medicaid and Medicare), drastically changing their quality of life and health outcomes. We have demonstrated results with several large insurers and health systems (e.g., reducing hospitalizations by over 40%) and are scaling the company and team. We aim to be the category leader in improving health outcomes for hard-to-engage populations.

Our work saves lives every day. We are a mission-driven company where you work with incredible talent and see tangible differences directly from your impact and influence.

You have the opportunity to build systems that drive daily healthy habit experiences

Specifically, you will :

  • Design, build, test, launch, monitor, and support features in our Android mobile application to motivate patients to achieve better health and earn rewards.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to shape and implement technical roadmaps for Android development.
  • Build and optimize application performance, implementing best practices for offline support, memory management, and responsiveness.
  • Uphold high standards for code quality and testing, implementing strategies to maintain a high-quality bar to achieve a delightful app experience, allowing us to maintain or exceed our 4.8+ star rating in the Google Play Store.
  • Be one of the team's leaders who has strong opinions, loosely held, with an ego-less, highly-collaborative, servant-leadership mentality.
  • Protect privacy by following secure SDLC guidelines to maintain our HITRUST certification.

You will be a member of a diverse and supportive team.

You will work with :

  • Front-end and back-end engineers to develop a seamless, high-quality native Android app that integrates effectively and efficiently with backend systems.
  • Quality engineers to build a testable system that is continuously integrated and delivered reliably.
  • Product Managers and Designers to shape the app's user experience, providing technical guidance on Android capabilities and constraints.
  • Android Engineers to ensure a consistent and seamless user experience across our native mobile apps, leveraging your Android expertise.
  • Various internal teams to refine the app, ensuring it meets diverse user requirements and supports broader business priorities.
  • Senior Engineering Manager on your career development, supporting your technical and leadership growth.
  • You might be the candidate we're looking for.

We're looking for someone who has :

  • 7+ years of professional experience building native Android applications with Kotlin, and / or Java.
  • Strong knowledge of Android frameworks such as Jetpack, Compose, ViewModel, LiveData, and Room.
  • Experience optimizing app performance, including memory management and multithreading techniques.
  • Experience designing and integrating with APIs and backend services.
  • Strong debugging skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code, following best practices.
  • Experience writing and maintaining unit, UI, and integration tests to ensure high-quality code.
  • A strong sense of ownership, proactively identifying roadblocks and driving solutions forward.
  • A consistent track record of solving ambiguous and high complex technical problems delivering high-quality mobile applications with a focus on user experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • We expect our candidates to :

  • Be an owner of large vertical and horizontal app concerns from inception, to launch, to post-launch operations.
  • Be a strong communicator with engineers, other cross-functional roles, and leadership. Written or verbal, your communications are timely, concise, and clear.
  • Pragmatic, balancing quality, speed, cost, and theory.
  • Operate with autonomy
  • Influence without authority
  • Teach, coach, and mentor other engineers, being a force multiplier for the team.
  • Compliment the work culture that supports team members, encourages curiosity and learning, and takes advantage of opportunities to improve systems and processes
  • In addition to the above, our ideal candidate has :

  • Experience contributing to full app rewrites or significant refactors for Android applications.
  • Proficiency in working within an agile development environment.
  • Proficient in interfacing with and sometimes building GraphQL APIs.
  • Familiarity with state management libraries such as Room, Realm, SQLite.
  • Experience with application monitoring and testing tools such as Bugsnag, Datadog, and Appium.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools, such as Mixpanel and Freshpaint.
  • Experience building React Native and iOS applications.
  • Experience with on-device object detection vision models.
  • Deep knowledge of CI / CD pipelines and automation tools for Android.
  • Deep knowledge of mobile app security to protect highly confidential and sensitive data.
  • Experience working with healthcare products and data.
  • You will enjoy working with us at Wellth.

The benefits of working with us include :

  • Flexible working arrangements, supporting strong remote-first practices and tools with the option to work in our excellent gathering space in Marina Del Rey.
  • Robust paid time off and generous parental leave program.
  • Competitive salary & commission structure.
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and FSA / HSA plans.
  • Ability to have a positive impact on people who need it most.
  • Support of a highly dedicated team focused on building the future of healthcare.
  • Base Compensation : $160K - $220K USD

Wellth is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or other protected characteristics.
