The University is building the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, or the IllinoisCOM, anticipated to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a mission to train exceptional physicians to leverage the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Chicago School is hiring a Director of Clinical Simulation to serve as a critical leader in developing and overseeing the clinical simulation program for the IllinoisCOM (College). The Director will lead efforts to create, implement, and manage high-quality simulation experiences that enhance the clinical education of osteopathic medical students. Collaborating closely with faculty, staff, and administrators, the Director will oversee simulation center operations, curriculum integration, and technology implementation to ensure the highest standards in all simulation activities.

The Director will drive innovation in simulation-based medical education, collaborating with other College leaders to develop and evaluate simulation scenarios, establish best practices, and ensure alignment with the osteopathic curriculum. In this pivotal role, the Director will shape the landscape of clinical simulation within the College, fostering student success and upholding the College's commitment to excellence in osteopathic medical education.

The Director of Clinical Simulation will be located on The Chicago School campus in Chicago, IL. This position will report to the Associate Dean responsible for clinical simulation.

KEY JOB DUTIES : Leadership

Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive clinical simulation program that supports the curriculum of the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Collaborate with faculty and curriculum leaders to integrate simulation experiences into the osteopathic medical education program.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the simulation center, including scheduling, maintenance of equipment, and inventory management.

Provide leadership in the development of policies and procedures for the simulation center.

Lead the adoption of best practices and emerging technologies in healthcare simulation and implement innovations as appropriate.

Project Management and Operational Support

Develop and manage simulation scenarios that align with curriculum objectives and support student learning outcomes.

Coordinate with faculty to ensure simulation experiences complement and reinforce classroom and clinical learning.

Oversee the maintenance and upgrading of simulation equipment and technology.

Manage budgets related to simulation center operations and equipment purchases.

Support accreditation activities related to simulation-based education.

Collaborate across university departments to expand simulation experiences into various healthcare disciplines.

Administration and Operational Efficiency

Establish and maintain systems for tracking student performance in simulation activities.

Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation experiences.

Coordinate staff and faculty training on simulation technology and debriefing techniques.

Manage relationships with vendors and external partners related to simulation equipment and resources.

Prepare regular reports on simulation center activities, utilization, and outcomes.

Participate in research activities related to simulation-based medical education.

Lead and facilitate research initiatives and scholarly activities in simulation-based medical education, including establishing research priorities, consulting on IRB submissions, ensuring compliance, and supporting the publication and presentation of findings.

Educational Support

Support and expand simulation experiences across the university and broader educational system as needed.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of simulation-based education methodologies.

Print and Design

Oversee the design and production of printed materials related to simulation activities, including instructional guides, scenario documents, and assessment forms.

Collaborate with the marketing department to create promotional materials for the simulation center.

Ensure all printed materials meet quality standards and align with the university's branding guidelines.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in nursing, paramedicine, physician assistant studies, or a related healthcare field or commensurate experience.

Current license in nursing, paramedicine, physician assistant, or other related healthcare field

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical practice and / or healthcare education

Experience in designing and implementing simulation-based learning experiences

Proficiency with simulation technology and equipment

Familiarity with printing technology and experience in working with print design

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in healthcare simulation, medical education, or a related field

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment

Current AHA or ARC instructor certifications for life support training, or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment

Experience in an osteopathic medical education setting

Strong understanding of osteopathic principles and practices

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment

Experience with curriculum development and instructional design

Familiarity with accreditation processes in medical education

Proficiency in data analysis and report writing

Project management experience

Experience with graphic design software and print production processes

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $90,000 - $110,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
