JT4 is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Edwards AFB located in California.

This is an onsite opportunity.

An Instrumentation Mechanical Design Engineer works as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team to perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, design, installation, and integration of airborne data acquisition systems for the Instrumentation Design section.

Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:

• Contribute as a member or lead of an instrumentation design team on complex mechanical engineering assignments in fast-paced prototyping environment.
• Independently perform a range of design, development, analysis, or review tasks under generally established project deadlines.
• Complete design specifications, analyses, or design reviews for aircraft instrumentation projects.
• Generate comprehensive design specifications for airborne data acquisition instrumentation systems.
• Collaborate closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
• Ensure verification and compliance with engineering documentation, design, and airworthiness standards and procedures.
• Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.
• Conduct mechanical stress, fluid, and thermal analysis for airborne instrumentation systems.
• Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
• Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
• Directly interface with customers at all levels from requirements development to final design and test activities.
• Act as liaison for design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
• Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendation.
• Perform other job-related duties, as required.

REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor of Science related to Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and four years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in engineering and a minimum of two years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering are required for this position.

In addition, an Engineer III must possess the following qualifications:

• Must have at least two years working closely with 3D CAD software such as: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, etc.
• Must have at least two years working in the aerospace industry.
• Mastery of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering that enable the employee to serve as a technical authority on projects relating to the specific programs.
• Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply the latest developments in engineering to solve problems in the specialty area.
• Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools.
• Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines.
• Must possess a valid, state issued driver's license. Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
• Must be a US citizen.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, or other digital engineering software.
• Working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machining operations.
• Ability to read and analyze electrical diagrams and mechanical schematics Finite Element Analysis using digital engineering software.
• Experience with aircraft instrumentation, specifically avionics or data acquisition.
• Knowledge of IRIG 106 Telemetry Standards.

SALARY

The expected salary for this position is $130-$146K annually.
