Working at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory we foster pride in belonging to an organization whose culture is made up of these core values : Trust, Empowerment, and Collaboration. Our company promotes a positive culture while ensuring the safety and reliability of our nation's naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Looking for a lifetime career? Apply today! Job Description Could you bring clarity to complexity by designing solutions that keep training operations on track for one of the most critical training programs in the country? The Training Applications and Support (TAS) organization, part of the Naval Training & Simulation (NTS) Department, provides applications used by personnel at the Moored Training Ships (MTS) and Kesselring Site (KS) to manage activities for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Training Program (NNPTP) Prototype phase of training. TAS has developed optimization models that help manage the Training Program effectively. The Training Capability Model (TCM) application is used internally by NTS to make data-driven decisions for allocating students to Nuclear Power Training Units (NPTUs). The Computer Assisted Student Scheduler (COMPASS) application is used by NPTUs to create detailed training schedules. We are seeking a Software Developer to maintain and enhance these optimization models. Experience with executing the NNPTP is preferred, along with skills in applied mathematics to solve complex problems. Major duties include maintaining optimization code in the GAMS language, keeping documentation and configuration control up to date, and working with NPTU personnel and other NTS units to ensure models accurately reflect real-world conditions. The Software Developer will collaborate with stakeholders to identify improvements and modernize the TCM product.
