Description
The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conserving the state's natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public. The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) serves Massachusetts’ citizens by protecting, restoring, and enhancing fishery resources and their habitats while providing sustainable fisheries-related recreational and commercial opportunities.

Job Opening : The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Marine Fisheries seeks applicants for a Seasonal Shellfish Program Lab / Field Technician to perform the following duties :
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assists in performing laboratory analyses of shellfish samples, water samples, phytoplankton, and related quality controls using Standard Methods and approved SOPs found in the laboratory QA manual.
- Prepares laboratory materials such as culture media, buffers, bacteriological cultures and chemical reagents.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and performs periodic equipment calibrations and adjustments.
- Performs routine tasks associated with a microbiology laboratory such as washing dishes and glassware, operating an autoclave and general laboratory upkeep.
- Occasional field work for the classification component of the Shellfish Sanitation and Management Program including water sampling and shellfish sample collections.
- Operate and maintain field equipment including sampling equipment and motor vehicles.
- Process data including data entry for computer analysis.
- Assist other MADMF projects with conducting research and field sampling as needed and when time permits.
- Demonstrate professionalism in words and actions and perform other duties as assigned.
