At VHS Hospice, we believe that volunteers play a vital role in enhancing resident comfort, companionship, and quality of life. Guided by our core values of Passion, Respect, and Excellence, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing, organizing, and overseeing a comprehensive volunteer program that supports residents, families, and interdisciplinary care teams.
Responsibilities for Volunteer Coordinator:
Plan, organize, and supervise the delivery of all volunteer services within the program.
Assign volunteers based on program needs and individual skills, interests, and availability.
Recruit, interview, select, train, and orient new volunteers in accordance with program standards.
Develop and maintain a record-keeping system documenting volunteer services, assignments, and time contributions.
Monitor, evaluate, and support volunteer performance to ensure quality and consistency of services.
Ensure volunteer compliance with Hospice policies, procedures, infection control standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Plan and conduct volunteer support meetings and ongoing development sessions.
Prepare reports and updates for the Director as required.
Promote community awareness and engagement to strengthen and grow the volunteer program.
Attend interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings and serve as a liaison between volunteers and the care team.
Collaborate with other program leaders to ensure coordinated and effective services.
Participate in in-service training and provide education sessions as assigned.
Complete required Hospice training programs and ongoing compliance education.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications for Volunteer Coordinator:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of the Hospice training program is required.
Ability to work independently, make sound judgments, and respond appropriately in crisis situations.
Strong adaptability and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
Minimum of 2 years of related experience preferred; volunteer coordination experience preferred.
Valid driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation required.
Ability to meet physical requirements of the role, including mobility, exposure to varying environmental conditions, and assisting with minimal patient transfers.
Ability to maintain emotional stability, flexibility, and professionalism in a demanding and sensitive care environment.
