Position Information
Position Overview Essential Job Duties This position is part of the Translational Research in Pain Program. We engage in high-
quality clinical and basic pain research. The position will be directly mentored and
overseen by Drs. Lascelles and Enomoto. The selected candidate will interact / work with
a technician dedicated to the project. Other team members include graduate students;
Veterinarian Research Assistants; Research Specialist Technicians; undergraduate
students. Close on-site faculty collaborators include Drs. Margaret Gruen (veterinarian,
Specialist in Behavior, pain researcher), Mike Nolan (Radiation Oncologist and
cancer / pain researcher), Dr. Santosh Mishra (neurobiologist) and Dr. Natasha Olby
neurologist).
Our group has strong connections and collaborations with pain researchers at UNC
Chapel Hill and Duke University.
Evaluation of clinical research patients (mainly dogs) for clinical studies
This position is anticipated to be for 3 years, contingent on funding.
Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate new clinical research cases and provide appropriate veterinary care. Perform
clinical and orthopedic examinations of small animal clinical research patients. Review
and interpret records and health histories. Obtain samples (blood, urine, feces, saliva)
and perform radiographic studies. Lead and / or assist with data collection on gait,
movement, activity, sensitivity and cognitive function. Maintain medical records in CVM
and TRiP EMR systems. Consult on cases with clinical team in the CVM Teaching
Hospital. Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion with PIs. Communicate effectively
and appropriately with other veterinarians, technicians and undergraduates. Work as a
team member and enhance team spirit.

00am to 5pm (approx.) Department Required Skills DVM degree and recent clinical veterinary practice experience Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Experience with Clinical Research.
Familiarity with orthopedic examinations, orthopedic
diseases and surgery. Required License or Certification Either NC State Veterinary License, or eligible for Faculty License Valid NC Driver's License required?
