Senior Programming Manager

Essential Functions :

Initiate programming and serve as lead project manager for assigned portfolio of programming including but not limited subscription and non-subscription non-classical concerts, at the Hollywood Bowl, WDCH, and the Ford.

Duties including but not limited to :

  • Research artist availability and sales histories to recommend artists, hosts, and projects.
  • Prepare P&Ls and budgets for concerts and events.
  • Send offers and negotiate performance fees and extras within the company’s guidelines and policies and send deal memos once confirmed.
  • Manage artist contracts in conjunction with Staff Attorney including amending contract riders, as well as disseminating necessary programming information to internal parties.
  • Lead creative discussions with artists, and creative team members to program and produce shows.
  • Attend outside shows, concerts, conferences, meetings, and festivals, for industry and cultural identification as well as outreach.
  • In collaboration with Vice-President of Programming, manage day-to-day activities of Presentations department, including but not limited to :
  • Support the Vice President, Programming in overall strategic direction of programming.
  • Serve as part of the Association’s programming team to design cross-genre programming for festivals and projects.
  • Manage Presentations Department schedules of dates available for bookings at WDCH and the Bowl, including updating and liaising with Production and other Programming Department colleagues.
  • Guide junior bookers or consultants as needed on artist bookings, and review offers before they are sent out.
  • Execute senior administrative duties, as needed and requested.
  • Liaise with Production Manager(s) on assigned Presentations shows to manage production, program and creative questions.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with artists, agents, managers, producers and vendors.
  • Liaise with visiting performing artists and appropriate staff members across all departments to address programmatic and creative questions.
  • With oversight from and in conjunction with the Vice President of Programming, track Presentations department budget and forecast, including review and approval of invoices as may be required.
  • Share in senior concert duty responsibilities, including nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements :

  • At least 10 years of booking experience for national touring acts
  • Relationships with booking agents at all major US agencies
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in the arts, arts administration or concert production
  • Extensive knowledge of and passion for music and artists
  • Strong skills in project management, organization, information synthesis and problem-solving
  • Proven negotiation and contract management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and meet goals
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably on multiple projects under tight timelines and in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop and sustain professional relationships and collaborate both internally and externally for the benefit of the organization
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Fluency in all Microsoft suites components and remote working tools (Slack, Google, Zoom, etc.)
  • Flexible schedule which includes ability to provide weekend and evening concert coverage as needed in addition to business day responsibilities Dedication and commitment to engage in and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the staff, vendors, and within interactions with the surrounding community is a must
  • Recent equity, diversity and inclusion training preferred
  • Second language fluency is a plus
  • Regular and reliable attendance
