Senior Licensing Engineer
Position Summary
The Senior Nuclear Licensing Engineer will be responsible for providing nuclear licensing support to the project and executing specialized activities during the licensing and engineering phases.
This position has technical responsibility producing licensing documents, interfacing with regulators and designers, maintaining the safety case and preparing reports.
This position will report to the Project Engineering Manager on the project and will work in coordination with other engineering disciplines to develop licensing and design documents.
This position is located in Reston, Virginia.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience in nuclear power plant design and regulatory requirements and will be capable of developing licensing and design documents that maintain safety in design.

Responsibilities :
- Prepare technical reports, studies, and licensing documentation including safety analysis reports, design basis documents, and other licensing information documents as needed to support the project.
- Work with an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities.
Provide leadership and mentoring to team members. Create meaningful goals working with the team and ensure goals are met.
- Establish and maintain work plans to ensure schedules are met and stakeholder requirements are satisfied. Create and track actions, estimate hours, and update schedules.
- Devise new approaches to solving problems from a variety of detailed technical options and assess cost implications.
- Support licensing efforts that drive the cost-effective design for the entire facility.
- Ensure compliance with flow sheet and safety requirements in all licensing documents and through review of detail design.
- Identify major technical uncertainties and present solution options for management decisions.
- Serve as an advisor for the analysis and solution of licensing problems and interpret drawings, verbal instructions, and applicable codes relevant to project requirements and demonstrate the ability to articulate explanations.
- Coach, train, and mentor licensing staff; conduct annual reviews and interview potential new staff.
- Ensure regulatory requirements are followed; conduct quality assurance for licensing products and assign licensing staff assignments.
- Perform other related work as assigned by Project Engineer.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications :
- BS or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another technical field from an accredited university or college with at least nine (9) years of progressive related experience.
- Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
- Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
- Working knowledge of regional requirements
Minimum Qualifications :
- Excellent listening, oral and written communication (including that in English), planning and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft office programs, and office automation tools.
- Related experience includes licensing work for nuclear power facilities and interface with international regulatory agencies or country regulatory entities.
- Experience in nuclear plant design, particularly pressurized water reactors.
- Knowledge of appropriate industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
- Extensive knowledge of licensing processes and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Knowledge of engineering standards.
- Lead or supervisory experience on large projects.
- Previous regulatory experience.
- Experience on design of first of a kind or other advanced technologies.
- Experience with AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant Design.
- Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.
