Stone Ridge is seeking a Full-time Upper School English Teacher to begin in August 2024.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Upper School English Teacher is responsible for teaching in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education.

Job duties include :

• Teaching sections of English courses such as Introduction to Literature, Global Perspectives in British Literature, and Literature of the Americas with the potential to teach a senior elective.
• Creating and updating plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum while collaborating with members of the English Department to ensure consistency across sections.
• Critically examining text selections and teaching materials in order to build diverse, equitable, inclusive, and just English classes.
• Actively collaborating with Learning Strategists, Educational Technologists, and the Counseling Staff to develop strategies to support all students.
• Maintaining good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.
• Attending all faculty and employee meetings.

Requirements and Qualifications :

• A track record of successful teaching, a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities, and experience integrating appropriate educational technologies into the classroom.
• Familiarity with current emphases on writing instruction, research, and Understanding by Design, the School’s chosen pedagogical approach to teaching and learning.
• A demonstrated desire to innovate and collaborate, strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, creativity, and flexibility.

Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience.
