Primary Purpose :
To guarantee the success of all students by providing specific and focused academic assistance to at-risk students, individual students or small groups of students working on individually prescribed learner objectives.
Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong content knowledge of the area of tutoring.
- Effective knowledge of learning theory.
Major Responsibilities and Duties :
- Provide assistance to teachers and to students that have been identified as at-risk.
- Provides direct instruction to at-risk students identified as eligible for math, reading, and writing services in individual, and / or small group settings.
- Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward at-risk student achievement of district’s content standards.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
- Assist in maintaining at-risk working files on students; monitors student progress and provides input on student performance.
- Uses a variety of manipulative and hands-on activities to support content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Creates a learning environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedure, and maintains order in a fair and just manner.
- Collaborates, as needed, with appropriate district / campus personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions.
