Job Description
The Department of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies (TECS) within the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a lecturer position with a focus on secondary education, specifically secondary English Language Arts.
This position also includes the coordination of a Secondary Teacher Education licensure pathway.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to teacher preparation programs emphasizing methods of teaching English Language Arts, clinical field experiences, social justice and equity in education, culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies, schools and schooling in the US, and other courses in our graduate programs and undergraduate education major.

Responsibilities :
Program Coordination : Manage and coordinate, with the secondary subject matter faculty, to establish student teaching placements for students in the University to Schools licensure program.
Manage all programmatic activities related to the University to Schools licensure pathway, such as recruitment, admissions, and advising.
Support students using technology and assessment systems.
Teaching : Teach at the graduate level, including two English Language Arts methods courses (aligned with the MA Curriculum Frameworks), pre-practicum and practicum courses, and student teaching seminars.
Teach at the undergraduate level, including a curriculum development course, social issues in education, multicultural education, and other courses in areas of expertise
College Service : Engage in faculty governance, attend meetings, and serve on committees, particularly the Educator Licensure Advisory Council (ELAC).
Requirements
Licensure Pathway (UTS) Program by possessing the following qualifications :
Minimum Requirements :
- Doctorate in Education or related field with a focus on secondary education, or equivalent. (Doctoral candidates who are ABD may be considered)
- Knowledge of Massachusetts secondary education teacher licensure requirements and English Language Arts curriculum frameworks.
- At least five years of experience teaching in middle or secondary schools.
- Experience working in schools that serve socio-economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse students.
- Experience working with pre-service and in-service teachers and administrators in school-university partnership programs.
- Ability to work effectively with learners of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrable record of commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice.
Preferred Requirements
- Administrative experience or college teaching experience preferred.
- Proficiency in instructional technology.
Additional Information
The initial appointment is for two years. Reappointments are contingent upon the availability of funding.
