Description

The outreach coordinator is the primary contact between Latino communities in Philadelphia and the Penn Memory Center and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and is charged with recruitment and retention of Latino adults into the Aging Brain Cohort (ABC) and Diverse VCID (VCID) studies.

They will also assist with outreach of Black / African-American adults in Philadelphia and general recruitment into clinical research trials, developing and maintaining relationships with community partners and study ambassadors, and speaking publicly with community members about participating in research.

They will manage print and digital communications with research participants and assist with the development of programming and events open to the public.

The coordinator will promote, monitor, and update the Brain Health Research Registry, which is a list of people who are interested in learning about and potentially participating in brain health research studies.

This may include creating registry materials to promote at health fairs and other events, making changes to a REDCap database, and contacting people on the registry periodically for new study opportunities.

Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for evaluating recruitment strategies and tracking enrollment in the ABC and VCID studies.

The coordinator will work with the research team to report on the racial breakdown of research studies and track the number of Latino adults who consent to participate in the VCID study.

The outreach coordinator will also work with the research team to pre-screen potential research participants in the VCID study, and, as part of retention work, assist with selected study procedures.

The coordinator will be responsible for setting up community talks as well as presenting on healthy brain aging, adapting the talk to different audiences, and finding available clinicians to attend.

They will work with community partners and research ambassadors to set up these talks and promote the Brain Health Research Registry.

They will also aim to identify new partners / ambassadors, and will assist in setting up meetings for these groups.

The coordinator will be the main contact for diversity recruitment into various research studies. This role will require bilingual (English and Spanish) communication skills, cultural competence, a passion for community engagement and willingness to learn additional tasks that will further the outreach mission.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

This position is contingent upon grant funding.
