Junior Software Engineer (Houston, Texas)

SiemensLogistics LLC is seeking a Junior Engineer to initially support the operationsand maintenance of the new state of the art baggage handling system at theHouston International Airport, then support other Siemens Logistics customersnationally.

PositionOverview :

We currently have an opening for a junior Java / J2EE Engineer. The idealcandidate will have excellent academic background and be able to apply theknowledge learned in engineering schools to solve problems and suggestinnovative solutions.

After the initial period where the candidate will workside by side with the upper level controls commissioning team learning theintricacies of the system, the candidate will be responsible for proper day today operation of the upper level control system He will be located at the IAHairport in Houston Texas and will be the person on the ground for a largesupport team located in Dallas and Germany.

Thiswill be the initial assignment, once the support for the IAH project is over,the candidate will learn the rest of the company products offering, he willinitially work side by side with other Siemens engineers in order to learn allthe intricacies of the position.

Ultimately he will be supporting othercustomers, directly or while being part of a team of engineers.

Most ofthe support can be done remotely, but traveling (nationally) is expected forthis position. Must be willing to relocate if required.

Responsibilities :

Working in a Matrix organization and reporting to the Engineering Manager andunder the direction of the Airport Baggage Handling Operations Manager, thecandidate will be required to participate in testing and commissioning of theautomated Early Bag System.

This includes configuring and troubleshooting thewindows servers, web logic server, Oracle database, basic network. Shouldbe able to utilize the JAVA / J2EE, Oracle database technologies to troubleshootthe applications.

The candidate after the initial training period, will be thepoint of reference for every BHS upper level system for the Early BagSystem at IAH.

He will need to be capable of interface with the local stakeholders, plan and prioritize the interventions, research issues andpossible solution, reach out to off-site support team for additional support.

Qualifications :

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or software engineering or a related discipline with GPA >
• year of experience (or) new graduate in designing and developing Java SE and Java EE applications. Freshers must have been used the Java / J2EE skills in final year or academic projects.
• Travel approximately 30% of the time When required, work odd shifts.

RequiredSkills :

• Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Programming
• Hands-on / understanding with programming applications using JAVA SE and JAVA EE
• Installing and configuring the WebLogic server and Oracle database by following instructions
• Deployment of EJB containers into WebLogic server by following instructions
• Administration of Oracle SQL database (creating table spaces etc.,)
• Retrieving health status of WebLogic server (Checking message queue lengths etc.)
• Hands-on with a relational database query language such as Oracle PL / SQL
• Troubleshooting of network and system related issues
• Strong written and oral English communication skills
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Preferred Skills :
• Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment.
• Ability to quickly learn new concepts and software.
• Candidate should be a self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, dependable.
• Knowledge of installing virtual machines, windows operating system is plus.
• General understanding of TCP / IP knowhow is plus.
• Knowledge of debugging skills, code optimization and performance tuning
