Lab Programs Manager Building Products Certification and Testing (On-Site)

Home Innovation Research Labs is seeking a highly motivated and well-organized self-starter to join our Building Products test lab team.

The role involves certification, testing, and evaluation of products from other companies to ensure compliance with building codes and standards.

This position includes a mix of program administrative functions and hands-on oversight and technical tasks associated with building product testing and certification services in the lab.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, analytical and critical thinking skills, excellent communication skills, solution-oriented knowledge, and a collaborative attitude.

They should be capable of working independently in a fast-paced, multitasking environment, and able to set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within budgeted scope and deadlines.

Responsibilities :

• Provide daily oversight and management of Lab Certification Programs by prioritizing schedules and all work activities to ensure efficiency and accuracy
• Ensure that samples are handled and tested in accordance with test standards and specifications, and that results are reported in a timely manner
• Read, interpret and understand standard test methods and specifications
• Maintain laboratory records, reports, and files
• Establish excellent relationships with all clients and ensure timely completion of all responses (internal and external) to meet client needs
• Support business development efforts in the Lab by assisting Director and Test Engineers with defining testing scope
• Assist in maintaining the lab’s Quality Management System through document oversight, training staff, and monitoring policies and procedures for areas of improvement
• Participate in periodic accreditation audits
• Perform building product testing in the laboratory per ASTM and other test standards or procedures
• Construct test specimens and assemblies (walls, roofs, floors, and other systems) to exact specifications
• Instrument test specimens with data acquisition sensors
• Conduct virtual inspection of products to determine compliance with applicable standards
• Travel as needed (approximately quarterly) to train field representatives on assigned Lab Certification Programs
• Assist Building Science Division on special projects needing lab testing
• Procure laboratory supplies to ensure minimal interruption of workflow
• Ensure that laboratory equipment and facilities are well-maintained

Requirements :

• 3+ years of experience leading teams or projects
• BS degree in engineering, math, science, or technical field
• Knowledge / Understanding of physics, chemistry, and / or engineering is necessary
• Proficient in manipulating spreadsheets and performing calculations in Excel
• Ability to work efficiently with precision and accuracy
• Ability to work evenings and / or weekends when necessary to complete special projects on time
• Ability to perform essential duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds and sitting, bending, or standing for extended periods

Additional preferred set of skills :

• Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited test lab
• Quality Management System (QMS) experience specific to ISO 17025, 17020 or 17065
• Knowledge of the construction industry, building codes, and ASTM standards
• Experience with data acquisition systems for testing, LabView preferred
• Familiarity with basic shop equipment and various test instruments
