Vaccine Protocol Position Summary / Purpose of Position : The University of Maryland, School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual for the position of Lecturer (professional-track) for our new Global Health Undergraduate Program.

The program is housed in the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health (MIAEH) which is currently transitioning into a new department comprising programs in global, environmental, and occupational health.

Students in this new interdisciplinary Global Health major will take courses in core public health disciplines, as well as languages, social sciences, and life sciences, and will be required to engage in experiential learning.

The position primarily involves teaching undergraduate courses along with carrying out departmental-related duties / service.

  • The successful candidate will bring expertise in any global health subdiscipline (e.g., water, sanitation and hygiene; climate change and health;
  • maternal and child health; food safety and security; poverty; transboundary air and water pollution; social determinants of health;

environmental justice; non-communicable diseases; pandemic preparedness, etc.).

The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in the new Global Health Undergraduate Program expected to launch in Fall of 2024.

  • The typical course load will be five to six courses per academic year. In addition to teaching, responsibilities may include : developing course syllabi for the new program;
  • attending and participating in program planning meetings; assisting the Global Health Undergraduate Director and Assistant Director with day-to-day operations;

participating in program assessment and evaluation; assisting with the revision of syllabi and curriculum revisions; and serving on departmental, school and campus committees.

Minimum Qualifications : Education :

Master’s in global health, public health, or a closely related field.

Experience :

Experience teaching undergraduate courses

Preferences : Preferences :

  • Ph.D. or related doctoral degree in global health, public health or a closely related field.
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogies and working with a diverse body of students in a mentoring role.
  • Knowledge of career pathways in global health, and / or experience working on international projects.

This will be a 9-month, renewable professional-track position at the rank of Lecturer, with promotion potential to Senior Lecturer over time.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. There may be opportunities to earn a summer salary through teaching and / or course development.
